I know this sounds totally cliche, bit try ignoring it. Most times, they enjoy the reactions they get.
Also, if you are out ANYWHERE, and it starts, leave. Just pack up your stuff, and leave. Say "No screaming!" and leave. We left countless restaurants when DS#2 went through a screeching phase. I would take him, make him look me dead in the eye, and say "We do NOT scream like that" and then march his butt out the door.

I have no advice...honestly, I just try my best to ignore it....it is really, really annoying, but I am hoping that as he is able to say more words, that this will wear itself out.

Re: So how do i handle this screaming stage without losing my mind or hearing??????
Right there with you
We were at a family party not to long ago and Lucas was so excited to be running around with his cousins that he started screaming. One of the people there turned to my DH and asked "does he do that at home?" I almost lunged at her...but held back and just said, in a very snotty tone, that is was a normal phase for kids (she has none)
He does it at restaurants and in the car...for the most part we ignore him but nothing really seems to help other than trying to distract him.
