so, the ped brought this up yesterday and I HAD to ask you guys...would you ever/have you ever
we were talking about the best methods of mucus extraction and he told me (raising his hands to make SURE I didn't think he was suggesting it   ) that some moms told him they sucked out the mucus with their mouths b/c it was just too difficult with the aspirator. they said they got more "bang for their buck".
he also told me about a Swiss mom that uses a product from Switzerland that is basically a tube with a catch midway through, on side goes in a nostril and the other in your mouth, and as you suck the mucus gets caught in the catch.
YUM
so my question is...would you or do you employ this method or similar?

I do, however, get a secret thrill of squeezing wet, slimy boogers out of his nose if I can see them from the nostrils. How gross is that?

I've never done it, but that's not to say I wouldn't do it if it was absolutely necessary.

I've never done that, but I have "picked" DS's nose to get the snot out! I'm generally not that grossed out by muscous, but could only really see myself doing it if I was desperate!

I have not but I know someone who has. She's actually a friend of a friend and her son would not tolerate an aspirator or any other mucus-extracting device. He was really sick and congested so she sucked it on out.
All I can say is I'm thankful that my 8 month old DD does not fight me or the aspirator ! You know what they say though...never say never

I've never done it, but I remember someone posting her a while back a contraption that went into the baby's nose, and then there was a hose/straw thingie that the mom sucked out of.

I can't say that I would ever do that - but never say never.
On a side note - my Ped suggested this thing called a Nose Frida and it works 1,000,000 times better than the blue aspirator that you get at the hospital. You put one side on DCs nose and you suck on the other. The snot never makes it up to your mouth though.

i use this:
it's amazing!! it pulls the snot from DS's throat! and you can NEVER suck in the snot.

There's not much I wouldn't do for my son.
this is my reasoning.
I did it yesterday after he told me about it.
Luce gets NUTS and I mean NUTS if I get anywhere NEAR his nose with the aspirator...but he lets mommy all up in his face.
so, I did it.
it wasn't as bad as I thought. salty. 
I don't know what I would do if it was all thick and green...not sure I'd have the courage...but this stuff isn't that bad at all.
would I make a meal or cocktail out of it? no

me too I have picked poor DS's nose on many occasions! I hate when I see a big one stuck up in his nostril that is too high to get lol.

No way could I do that without gagging & vomiting....
If it was a life or death situation, yes...otherwise aspirator. Just hold the opposite nostril down for better suction.

ahhhhhh.... they would have to be VERY stuffed... though the swiss thing sounds ok... at least you arent tasting it I do however use my bare hands to wipe their noses in a pinch!

Uuughh no way! I could never.
I had a few parents in day care do this.
When they left, I ran to the bathroom, seriously thinking I was gonna puke.
I would NOT be able to handle it.

I've watched my mother do this to my niece before, when she was a baby, and was so congested, she was practically choking on her own mucus and couldn't breathe.
It seems insanely disgusting, but I guess it's one of those things that sometimes when the child is suffering, it works.
The moment my mom did it -- my niece was so much more relaxed and finally able to breathe. It was just a few seconds, my mom spit out the mucus and washed her mouth out, and that was it.
