Sockless babies PSA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I found the perfect response!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OK so all last week with the chilly temps I've been dragging DS out and within 4 minutes the socks are gonnnnnnnnnnnnne. And shoes too. By friday I had HAD IT. I'm choosing my battles. If his little feet are cold so be it. We have declared a truce.
Anyway I've been reading so many posts here and on FB re: the OBNOXIOUS passersby who feel it's their civil duty to comment on it "Aren't his feet cold??" "Doesn't he have socks?" "Where are his shooooooes?" After 2 years of this now, I'm fed up with it, half them time I just roll my eyes and keep walking.
Anyway yesterday we were on line at KeyFood, older lady in front of us. I saw her eyeballin the bare feet and *knew* she was gonna pounce. Sure enough (NASTILY!) "That baby needs socks."
I didn't blink, looked her right in the eye, did my BEST sad panda face and said "He can't wear socks right now he has GOUT "
She did the face and kind of shuffled out, so either I REALLY threw her off with that OR she caught on that it was a veiled "F.U. LADY".
Either way I'm still giggling about it

Re: Sockless babies PSA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I found the perfect response!!!!!!!!!!!!!
that is fantastic!!!!
i have to share a gout story...
when i was in the hospital, being induced with Em - my parents were in the room with me before the Epidural. My dad HAD gout at the time....and he was sitting there, in so much pain and complaining....and the whole time we were laughing at him HYSTERICALLY asking if HE'D like the epidural...and to give us a break, i'm in LABOR and he's upset about his foot.
we have not yet let him live that down!

I'm SO gonna work it, just watch
If she's anything like her Mommy though, she will ALWAYS have her feet covered. I don't like chilly feet. I sleep with socks on!

Re: Sockless babies PSA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I found the perfect response!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG I am so gonna use this one!! I get the same reaction from some mommies when I pick up DD1 from kindergarten....you would THINK that they all glued socks to their children and never had a child go sockless. DD2 is 3 months old and if I dont have her in a sleep and play she kicks the socks off....and no matter how tightly I put the blanket on her, my little Houdini gets those little tootsies out to show the world.
GOUT!! THATS PRICELESS!! infant Uloric anyone??

I got that look in BRU the other day. I knew a comment was coming...But before she was able to comment about it, I said "Yes I know he has no socks on. Deal with it" I told her to just wait. Her baby would be yanking hers off soon enough...She just walked away...The husband just looked at me and giggled...I have to remember the gout comment....LOL

Re: Sockless babies PSA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I found the perfect response!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Your situation is different i'm sure, but i have to be honest...I hate when i see babies in really cold weather w/out socks...like winter weather. I wouldn't say anything but i always feel bad.
My 14 month old is sockless a LOT of the time..he rips off his shoes and socks so i just keep them off...but only if its warm enough.
There have been times i've been shopping and see a little baby without anything on its feet and its freezing out. I hate it!

I can tell you for a fact that I take my 15 month old son out every day with SHOES and SOCKS on, he pulls them off in the car and I put them back on when we reach our destination so he can pull them back off. I'm sure you will feel bad for him when you see him everywhere with no shoes and/or socks on. I can't tell you how many times someone has said something to me - my response is to pull the sock out of my bag and/or pocket and show them that he does have socks... I can also tell you that there have been many times that I've had to retrace my path through Target to find the socks he tossed while I was shopping...
BTW, why do they not make laces on toddlers shoes?! Don't these manufacturers realize that velcro is a joke to any child over 12 months...
