Solid Food Question - so confused
What did everyone do when it was time to start fruits and veggies. Did you put cereal right into the veggies, or did you continue to give cereal with formula and then give them some fruits or veggies, or did you do fruits/veggies totally seperate. For example, I give dd cereal in the morning and at night - would I then give her fruits/veggies at lunch?
And when do you stop giving them cereal?
I think I'm putting way too much thought into this whole solid food thing. I feel like it's all I think about

Re: Solid Food Question - so confused
ds is 1 and I still give him cereal for breakfast, sometimes I put in a jar of fruit in it... we started with veggies first: squash, sweet potatoes, carrots, peas... and then we moved on to fruits... if dc doesnt like the taste of veggies/fruits at first, mix it with cereal...

Re: Solid Food Question - so confused
Right now DD has 2 tbls oatmeal in the morning and 2 tbls barley in the evening. This weekend we are starting veggies with the evening meal. To start with, I am not going to mix it with the cereal...we'll see how it goes. After we work our way thru the veggies, I will start the fruits with morning meal and probably start a 3rd meal.

Re: Solid Food Question - so confused
I started at 5.5 months with rice cereal. First 1x a day for a week or so (mixed with formula) then 2x a day for another week or so, maybe 2 weeks - I didn't want to rush things and I wanted his digestive system to be able to handle it all. Then I did a tsp of sw. potato along with the oatmeal at one feeding (dinner) for a week. Then I did carrot instead with oatmeal for dinner for a week. Usually give a week for reactions to show. I didn't want to do too much so I think I left it at that for another few days, then did oatmeal and carrots in the AM and oatmeal and sw. pot in the PM. Then I did a 3rd meal, and did just a fruit. I started with a tsp of baby applesauce. Then every day just increase it a little bit (like 1/4 tsp more). I just sort of gauged how he was doing, if he liked it or was not interested. I was too afriad that I was giving him too much at one time and he'd throw it back up. He didn't. From there I just sort of gauged when he would want more, when it was time for a new food, etc. Daycare also gave me pointers and that helped. HTH.

Re: Solid Food Question - so confused
I gave baby spoonful of cereal, then baby spoonful of veggie back and forth the first time to see if she liked it (peas, and she did). With carrots she didn't like to eat it that way, so I mixed the carrots with the cereal. We haven't started a third veggie yet but I will do the same thing . . . alternate baby spoonfuls at first to see if she likes the flavor of the new food.
ETA: I'm also giving this waaaay too much thought.

Re: Solid Food Question - so confused
After we did rice cereal and oatmeal and made sure she wasn't allergic we started fruits. I tried apples 1st and I gave her a little bit of apples, then a little bit of cereal. For most of the foods this was ok, but she didn't like bananas at first so I mixed them in with the cereal so she would eat them. Now she loves them and has no problem eating any fruit/veggie I give her alone. I alternate spoonfuls of food and cereal.
ETA: She gets 2 tbsp cereal and 1/2 container fruit/veggie in the morning and 2 tbsp cereal and 1/2 container fruit/veggie in the evening.
