No longer interested in solid food

DD is 8 months old and has not been interested in solid food for the past 3 weeks. I offer 4-5 times a day and she will usually reluctantly take 2-3 bites but often totally refuses. Ped told me to stop feeding her bottles at night (she suddenly started waking at night for bottles again 3 weeks ago) and she would eat more during the day. Well, this is the 4th night and we'll see how it goes. So far she has screamed for a bottle 1-2 times each night (last night for 40 minutes) and has not increased her desire to eat food. I feel so bad for her. She dropped from the 10th to the 5th percentile for weight recently and I am afraid she will continue to drop if I don't feed her at night and she continues to refuse solids. Has anyone else gone through this? How did it turn out? Chat Icon

I am not sure, I am certainly far from a doctor. But I would say if it gets that bad and she will still drink her bottles, then she is still getting nutrition. That is better than not eating IMO. Good luck.

Re: No longer interested in solid food

This happened to us at about the same age. She was interested in eating, just not from a spoon- she wanted to do it herself.

I started giving her things she could pick up and eat instead and she started eating again.

Re: No longer interested in solid food

Last night was much better. She only woke up 2 times and cried for less than a minute before she went back to sleep. She woke up this morning at 6:40am playing and happy. Yippee. Hopefully it continues and she goes back to eating solids soon. I guess all I can do is offer often with a smile even though it can be very frustrating.
