Something is seriously wrong with me, advice please!
I am currently 9 weeks pregnant with #2. I have mentioned it before, that I had severe nausua 24/7 when I was pg with Ava. I took Zofran 3x a day, dragged myself to work, and hit the couch as soon as I got home. It lasted 12 weeks.
This time around, it's on a whole new level. I have been completely bedridden for 4 entire weeks now. I am unable to care for Ava-at all! I had to quit my job, and I cannot take care of the house, cook, or even care for myself. My Mom and DH have been taking turns bringing food to me and taking care of Ava.
There have been several times over the last 3 days that I have seriously considered going to the ER. Aside from the nausua, I am extremely weak. I can barely get off the couch to bathe myself! And when I do, I just put on new pj's. I have not left the house in days.
I have called my OB to discuss this and to see if I can come in and get checked out. The Office Mgr (Dr's wife) will not give me an appointment. She said that there is nothing that the Doctor can do for me- "She was very tired her second pregnancy too"..... I feel like smacking her- this is not tired......this is seriously sick!!!!!! She said all of my blood work is normal, that this will hopefully pass in the next 4 weeks and that they will see me then for my next appointment.
I feel defeated, sick and useless!!!!!
I KNOW that this is not normal!!!!!!
What should I do???? I even stopped taking the Zofran, because it is effecting my vision so much!
WHat could be wrong? Did this happen to anyone else? What would you do??
Could the ER help me? I am not vomitting, just constant nausua and weakness...

I'd switch doctors honestly. And if you are keeping food and fluids down then I'd ask this new doctor if they can switch your medicine. There are other options besides Zofran.
I needed Zofran because I was vomiting so much that I was losing weight.
Like I said, I'd change doctors and find one that is willing to work with you

I'm not really sure what's going on here but wanted to give you
My advice....if your OB's office won't see you, make an appointment with another DR. The receptionist is answering phone's for a reason...she is NOT a DR (no offense to any receptionists out there.....I hate when they think they can give medical advice just because they work FOR a DR) GL

Re: Something is seriously wrong with me, advice please!
I was seriously ill unfortunately all nine months-but I was vomiting and taking zofran... I actually did go to the ER once for spitting up blood and it turned out I tore my esophagus and was dehydrated-I have to say after they hydrated me although I was still ill the rest of the pregnancy I was sick on a much higher functioning level until I was placed on bed rest for the last 3 and a half months-uggh! I say if your Dr's office won't listen to you, you have to listen to your body-it is annoying to go to the ER because it is hours of waiting but hopefuuly they will listen and be able to help you in some way -you should not have to live like that. I really hope things look up for you soon! Congratulations on the pregnancy though!
P.S: Maybe look into a new Dr office as well. I love my Dr he listened to everything I had to say-you need someone who is working for you (and who's staff is willing to help!) Good luck!

Re: Something is seriously wrong with me, advice please!
My sister had this with her 2nd and 3rd pregnancies. She was on Zofran and was in the hospital a few times. Luckly her husband is a doctor and was able to bring home liquid food for her and give her drips. She was horrible for all 9 months. I feel for you - I was sick for about 4 months - on Zofran also with my 2nd pregnancy and it was so hard to work and take care of a 2 year old. I hope you feel better soon.

I'm sorry I don't have any real advice for you but I think that if I were in your position I would consider switching doctors at this point, especially if you feel he is not listening to you and you aren't happy with the way you are being treated.

I'm so sorry...how frightening...I agree and would demand to speak to him or switch doctors and have your blood re-taken. I'm assuming you are doing prenatals, getting enough protein, carbs and water (what you can keep down)? Hang in there....

I really think you should get a second opinion, it's not normal and if someone else can give you some sort of relief, then you'd want to know that. I would also worry that you might be dehydrated, which is dangerous. Even if you're ingesting liquids and you think it's enough, many times when you're pregnant, it's not enough. I'd get another appt. with someone else soon or go to the ER for peace of mind. Hang in there!

Re: Something is seriously wrong with me, advice please!
I was sick just like this when I was preggo with Julia, I couldn't get out of bed, I was sick from 6am to 11pm, I couldn't eat a thing, and any smell made me throw up. It was really bad, I had to quit my job too, and had no energy to do anything! I was like this for 2 months.... then it just went away.
ETA: I hope you feel better soon!!

I'd consider switching doctors. Refusing to see you is just ridiculous!
My thought on you going to the ER is that you might find out that you are dehydrated. Maybe getting some IV fluids would help your energy level and nauseousness.

If your doctor and his or her office is responding this way now, imagine how much worse it is going to be at delivery! Switch now while you have the chance! I don't know where you loivem, but I can personally recommend Barbara Charles, midwife, and/or Dr. Robert Scanlon, in Huntington. Both are amazing. Good luck!
BTW, another friend of mine had a similar pregnancy and somkehow remarkably gave birth to a HUGE healthy baby girl!

Are you keeping food & liquids down? You could be dehydrated. I would either demand to see/talk to the doctor. Or switch OB's. If you are truly feeling that bad maybe head over to the ER. Better safe then sorry. Tons of hugs & prayers!

Re: Something is seriously wrong with me, advice please!
Please find another Dr. - and get a second opinion - it is better to actually see a dr and let them tell you there is nothing you can do - then to let it go if there is something that they can and should be doing for you.
I hope you feel better soon

Re: Something is seriously wrong with me, advice please!
You just described me to a T when I was PG. I had severe hyperemesis and the Zofran stopped working after a while. I took every medication they had for nausea and nothing helped.
I was sick I could barely get out of bed. I ended up losing a TON of vitamins and becoming very anemic b/c I could eat or drink and it was scary.
I finally had an IV infusion pump put into my leg with Zofran continously being given and I found enough relief to at least get up in the morning.
I would INSIST on seeing the DR. and if not CHANGE.
Are you losing weight?
This is a serious disease thats not taken as strongly as it should be by Dr's.
Im so sorry your going through it
Try googling Hyperemsis and you can find some great support groups with some good information.

Re: Something is seriously wrong with me, advice please!
I was in your boat from week 6-16. I dont know how I would do it again with dd. Maybe you should go to the hospital bc they told me they can do zofran through some sort of enema that makes it go into your bloodstream faster. I know how you feel bc i didnt know if i was going to make my whole pregnancy. I am sorry you are going through this. I remember how bad i felt. Do you need help with dd? if so, maybe a few of us can help ya out. i'd be willing to if need be. Let me know.

Re: Something is seriously wrong with me, advice please!
First of all I would find another OB/GYN and I would do it ASAP. In the meantime make sure drink lots of water and if you mix it with some lemon juice (real lemon) that may help with nausea.
Good luck, I hope you feel better soon.

Re: Something is seriously wrong with me, advice please!
If you have been contemplating the ER, to me that is your body trying to tell you to get help.
No offense, but your Drs wife/receptionist should NOT be diagnosing you over the phone. YOU are the patient and HE is the Dr. If you want an appointment, even if it turns out to be for nothing, W T H does she care? That is not a great way to handle an OB business. I know I am spoiled by my OB, but anytime I felt ill, she would call me personally to determine what the course of action needed to be.
Is it possible that on top of m/s you have the stomach virus that is going around? DS & I both had it and it was brutal
I hope you feel better soon!
