South Nassau & Mercy hospital

My ob/gyn works out of Mercy & South Nassau.
Has anyone had a baby at either of them? Just wanted to hear some opinions of both.
We are going to set up appointments to look at both next month.
Thanks!

South Nassau all the way!!!! I delivered there and it was amazing!! All private rooms all clean and redone. The nurses there are all so great. Go do tours at both I did and make your decision from that it wont be hard :)

I switched doctors last year in hopes to deliver at South Nassau since the practice I chose is affiliated with South Nassau. I have three friends that delivered there and were nothing but happy with the hospital and staff. As of January, the practice that I go to is now affiliated with LIJ. Chat Icon

Re: South Nassau & Mercy hospital

We've delivered two at Mercy. You may want to do a little research. Mercy has a higher level NICU in terms of what they could handle if there's a problem-not sure what the exact right terms are for it.

S. Nassau has more bells and whistles. Mercy has a level 3 NICU, South Nassau does not. It all depends on what you are looking for.

Re: South Nassau & Mercy hospital

My doc delivers at both also. I just switched (on baby #3) because I delivered at NSUH with DS#2 and was not happy with it. I want to deliver at South Nassau as well, it's 5 minutes from our house vs. NSUH which is 25 mins with no traffic. I am def leaning twd South Nassau over Mercy but I guess it depends on how this pregnancy plays out. As long as everything develops normally, I will deliver there. If there happens to be a high risk at the end, I will go to Mercy.

PS I go to Dr. Mark Brandon in RVC. I like him so far and he is a solo practice so he will be the one to deliver me.

Re: South Nassau & Mercy hospital

Mercy is level 3 NICU that is the highest
South Nassau is level 2 its one level down. My nephew was in South Nassau NICU and had a wonderful experience. When you go to the classes for each hospital they both go over all of this for you.

I delivered at Mercy and was VERY happy with my experience. Yes, it doesn't have all the bells and whistles, but if God forbid something was wrong with DD I would be at a hospital with a better NICU. I also developed preeclampsia and they took very good care of me. I highly recommend them.

Re: South Nassau & Mercy hospital

Thanks for all the advice.
It definitely helps to hear other experiences & opinions.
I go to Dr. McMannus in Long Beach, I've been going to him for years & never had any complaints

Forgot to mention- I delivered at Mercy and had a wonderful experience.

Also- regardign NICU - level 4 is actually the highest (LIJ, NSUH, Stonybrook and Winthrop) all have them - the next best thing is level three...

I am pretty sure the only difference is that a level 4 can accept airlifted patients from other hospitals and a level 3 does not. Ask at mercy and they will tell you.

I go to Dr. Brandon too!! LOVE HIM!!!!!!

He def prefers Mercy! I do too. I love Mercy. The nurses are great and so was the NICU.
