Spin-off to Air Train to JFK
If you are taking the LIRR to the Air Train, can you bring a big suitcase on the LIRR? (I don't think the suitcase would fit in the overhead rack). We would have to take a very early train on a weekday (around 5:30 am). My friend that I am travelling with mentioned taking the train, but I'd rather drive and park or take a car service, but everyone says the train is so easy (and inexpensive). So would a train at that time be full of commuters? Would there be an issue with the suitcases? (we're coming home on a weekday too, but will land after rush hour - around 7:30 pm, so not sure how that will be either)
Thanks!

Re: Spin-off to Air Train to JFK
I have taken the train with a medium sized suitcase. It fits on the overhead rack fine. Think bigger than a carry on, but smaller than the really large piece of luggage that comes with your set. It was fine.

hmmm. . . I'd be using the bigger piece that comes with the set. Any thoughts on that?

What station would you be getting on at?

Either leave the suitcases by the doors or wherever you can find a little bit of extra room (sometimes by the flip down handicap seats as long as no one needs them).
We use the LIRR to get to the airport all the time and have never had a problem.

This.
I see it all the time whenever I'm on the train.

Re: Spin-off to Air Train to JFK
I take trains with large suitcases often. I’ve never done it on the LIRR, though. But the transport I have done it on have been much smaller.
I’m not sure of the wheel situation on your suitcase (4 wheels?), but I just lay it on its side and that’s it. It may block the aisle (get an aisle seat), but you know what? That’s life. They can walk around it. It isn’t like you are putting it on the seat next to you. That’s another story
That’s a pretty early train. You should be good.

A 5:30am train isn't usually too crowded. It will mostly be construction workers on the early shift, but that's even a little early for them.

Yup, do it all the time...I stand if I have to...or I'll go to the shorter section of the car, sometimes there's extra room there to keep it next to me & not block the aisle.

This except I take the 5:21 train every day and it is actually pretty packed.
