the average household income in NYC is $48,631, numbers are from 2007 from the Census Bureau.
his tax incentives would help the majority of people in this area.
ETA: Nassau 72,000 and suffolk for a family was $83,000
yes, but that is for individuals. for most people on LI and NYC with both spouses working, they could come quite close to the $250,000... and we all know with a family, property taxes out the wazoo, high COL, etc. that Obama's tax increases will negatively effect our area.
Did you look at the chart above? Unless you make over 600,000; your taxes would NOT be increased.
To me; Obama's chart makes more sense. Increase the amount back to the people that need it the most; and as you make more money you get less back.

no, it's household.
that's why I said, HOUSEHOLD.
"most" people on LI and NYC do not make 250,000k. MOST people..no way.

Re: Spin off to all the Palin posts...how many of us are familiar with
20% on capital gains is still a bargainl maybe I think so, b/c we sold a butt load of stock options when we lived in CA and paid regular income on it! Everyone wants lower taxes, but I found when I embraced Ben Franklin's tax theory, I stopped stressing as much.
In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes. ~Benjamin Franklin
I don't want to burden my children with such debt that comes with lower taxes.
on a side note: VPs are totally important - they are tie breakers in the Senate (and our Senate is quite split, which makes it VERY important). Plus don't forget Spiro Agnew-gate

I really like Obama's idea to make the highest income earners shoulder more of the tax burden.
I don't think the richest people and biggest corporations need the breaks right now. Trickle down economics does not work. I believe someone else posted about the definition of insanity on another thread... these are our employers, who do you think they will pass this on to?

I don't understand, are you suggesting that they will pass the tax breaks on to us, or are you asking a question? Sorry, just want to make sure I understand before I chime in.

I work for a very large company on LI and people are getting laid off all the time. if they have to pay even more $ in Fed taxes, guess who ultimately suffers?

I think when companies suffer they take it out on employees, but I also think when they prosper, they don't necessarily trickle it down to employees. I feel corporations are too greedy.
Plus it's just another way of looking at things. If the everyday consumers have more buying power (and face it, the same amount of money in a middle class person's pocket will have more impact than in a very rich person's, because it means much more in terms of spending power...rich people have more than they can spend anyway), then they will buy more products and the companies will get it that way and still prosper.

that's what people have been saying all along... $250K on LI is not $250K in Kansas, or most other states.

it's true. When my company prospers, i get a bigger bonus! But we prosper when normal middle class people BUY stuff.
It's just 2 different solutions to one problem. I'd rather do it from the bottom up!

I like that idea! that's a win-win as far as I'm concerned.
and besides, I hear that labor rates in India and China aren't as cheap as they used to be.... only a few yrs ago.
I've also recently read some articles from small business owners who are LOSING $ b/c China has increased the labor rates exponentially. they gave a ridiculous "teaser rate" up front, and then raised it. it's the old bait and switch.
Also - once a company moves their production to China who has no counterfeit laws or patent laws, they can steal your products. and there is nothing you can do about it. they have some of our companies by “the balls”

no one I know and all but one person in my family is at that 250k combined level... I doubt it is as prevalent and If I wasn't so tired, I'd go look @ the census.

Posted by mrsej Does anyone really remember who the VP was of any president before ROnald Reagan and if so, what monumental/catastrophic thing do you recall them doing while in office?
McCain is the oldest candidate ever, this is why there has been a lot of scrutiny over his VP pick.
Unfortunately most of us know who JFK's VP was because he took office after JFK was assassinated
He is the oldest, but people already have him dead!! It is weird how people are almost expecting him to die in office. 72 is young today. My Dad is 70 and is still working, jogging and running around like a 20 year old.
