Spin off to Diana's post - Fruit Snacks

I'm sooo glad I'm not the only mommy who let's dc have these.

They save my life on a daily basis.
I know they are bad, blah blah blah.

The other day, Nick was giving me a hard time getting out of the house, so I said to him, "If mommy can't go to work, then she can't buy fruit snacks!"

You would think I just told him there was no Santa.

Anyone else having a love affair with fruit snacks?

I get the Annie's organic ones, and DS LOVES them. Worked great today in the food store when he was having a meltdown.

Not yet but when she is old enough you bet your azz she will get these if she like them.
I mean- how bad can they be.

no way.
I know a ped dentist who claims this is the #1 cavitiy culprit.
He said sometimes he actually sees pieces still stuck in the teeth.

Chat Icon
My theory is everything in moderation.
I had the same theory while pregnant.
I ate whatever I wanted, had an occasional glass of wine.
Guess what? DD was born perfect!

I think about what I ate growing up and how healthy I am now (no cavities either!) and I figure- how bad can some treats be in moderation??

A dentist told me this too. I don't give them. I've heard the same about raisins too, actually... really bad for the teeth because they stick.

I bribe with Cheez-Its though... that's my weapon of choice.

Yup, you are 100% correct! Sydney used to eat these quite often... we never give her candy besides the occassional birthday party lolli etc... well at 4 years old she has 3 cavities!!!!! I was mortified and felt so bad! The pediatric dentist said the same thing, those fruit snacks are the #1 worst thing to give your child.

Luce hasn't tried them yet but his FATHER loves these things.

my mom used to have them for my little brother and sister (they were 2 and 4 when we started dating) and he'd make me steal them for him from her cabinet Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I HATE all gummy candy so I never became an addict. I refuse to buy them b/c the bomb will dog them and Luce will be SOOL!

My son has to have 2-4 teeth pulled this month. I suspect fruit snacks were the main issue as well as improper brushing. I'm mortified that it got to this point. My first cavity was at 24 years old.

I definitely think you need to rethink the fruit snacks. Trust me when I say after getting multiple xrays for him & now sprining for space maintainers, etc. opt for something better.

I remember your DD's story. I never gave AJ any. I love gummys but have limited myself over the years due to tooth decay. They always get stuck.

I think how they get stuck in my teeth and figured I didn't want her to have that. Can't be good.

We bribe with marshmallows hahaha Chat Icon Strawberries, crackers and cheezits. But we give her one big jumbo marshmallow and watch her face light up.

I figure whatever works, use it. Use it a LOT! hahaha!

Re: Spin off to Diana's post - Fruit Snacks

DS used to eat tons of these all the time.

Last week he had to be put under anesthesia to have ELEVEN cavities filled.

No more gummy snacks in this house.

DS loves them. He thinks they are the biggest treat ever. He was i the habit of having them at least once a day. now it is more like 1-2 times a week.

i don't want to be one of those mom's who doesn't let her kid have fun snacks but a friend of mine's 3 kids all have had SOOO many cavities - all in the baby teeth...and they lived on these things. I will try to not give them to DD when she's old enough...if she doesn't know about them I figure she won't miss them.
