Spin off to my post - positive and future exposure
So let’s say someone tested positive for covid they get better, negative results goes back to their daily life.
Now say that person gets exposed again they really have to quarantine since they already had it?

Great question! I’m curious to find out the answer to this

There have been numerous cases (not a huge number, but a measurable number) of people who have caught Covid-19 more than once. Just because you recovered from it doesn't mean you are 100% immune.

Spin off to my post - positive and future exposure
My coworker sent me something yesterday because this has happened to someone in her extended family.
If you have been confirmed positive within the last three months - you don't have to quarantine if exposed again. I need to find where she pulled it from.

Meanwhile moderna is saying their vaccine can last for years. I’d love to know how that can be better than your own body’s natural immunity. It’s all very interesting

There may be newer info, but last I heard, with the vaccines, they weren't sure if you could be a carrier or not, so even if you didn't "catch" Covid-19, you could theoretically spread it. Everything is changing so fast. My info may be outdated by now.

If you can that will be great. I am tempted to just get us all tested so we don’t have to quarantine if we are exposed.

I know someone that tested positive for antibodies in the fall...currently is being tested because her entire family is positive and she lost her sense of smell and taste.
So, she may be negative but that is unlikely. She may have caught it twice or another strain.
Scary!

Totally agree. My ex had in twice. I don't believe we carry immunity from it.

It's on the CDC website. I read it there last week.

From the CDC website:
People who have been in close contact with someone who has COVID-19—excluding people who have had COVID-19 within the past 3 months.
People who have tested positive for COVID-19 within the past 3 months and recovered do not have to quarantine or get tested again as long as they do not develop new symptoms. People who develop symptoms again within 3 months of their first bout of COVID-19 may need to be tested again if there is no other cause identified for their symptoms.

So I wonder if you can catch it again, would be a milder case? Like getting the flu even though you had the flu shot?
It’s true. There are so many articles about it and none of them are conclusive. It’s all too new

My Father in Law tested positive THREE times since the spring. (with plenty of time and negative tests in between) So either the tests are wrong OR you can get it multiple times

I think both - sometimes the tests are wrong and sometimes you can get it multiple times.
I know a lot of people who tested positive on a rapid and negative on a pcr.

Yes and the opposite- negative on a rapid and positive on a pcr. I also know someone who tested positive on PCR and a month later has no antibodies at all for Covid per a blood test. So who the eff knows. It's all a disaster

You are presumed immune for 90 days.
Unless you are Nell's FIL. Then all bets are off (not trying to make a joke- his situation just blows my mind)!

Well in all honesty, this man has always been a medical mystery and a medical miracle at times, so perhaps he is not a fair comparison to the real world! They should definitely study him for medical journals though!

Re: Spin off to my post - positive and future exposure
Got both my kids tested to Avoid further quarantine if they are exposed again. Both are positive!
The dr told me they don’t need a negative test cause people are still testing positive months later when they are showing no symptoms. They just have to be symptom free and quarantined for at least 10 days.

But if they are positive - can't they still shed the virus and infect others?
I'm so confused.

People have been testing positive for months and months after recovering. They aren't sure why. People would have to be locked away for months on end if they made you stay quarantined until a negative. But they don't believe you are contagious anymore after you are symptom free.

I really do hope the vaccine works better at giving immunity than naturally getting the virus then. Because that is very scary.

Very Scary! The first time he had it in the Spring he felt better in a few days, This time it's 7 weeks he is out of work, spent about a month in the hospital. I don't think we are going to be that immune to it...but I am just basing that on my gut, I have nothing to back that up.

I feel like this is going to be like Flu A and Flu B, you can get both strains, and you can get them more than once.

That's so scary! It is insane to me how differently this virus effects people. I hope your co-worker gets better soon.
I'm a very pro science person but I'm just not confident with this vaccine. I feel like they don't have enough data about this particular strain of the virus (viruses?) for it to be effective. I definitely think it will help some people for sure, but I'm concerned we are being lulled into a false sense of security as a whole.
