DSs first word was "cat" I think he was about 10 months. It is still his favorite word to say

my older DD's first word was at 5 months and it was "tickle"
Now at 7 1/2 months my younger DD has no interest in speaking at all.

DS was a very early talker. He said "Mama" at about 6 months and hasn't stopped talking since! This kid talks all day.

It's really not his first word b/c he's really only babbling, but around 7 months and still now at almost 8 months he says "da da da da"
I don't consider his first word... not until he says mama

DS said mama at 8 months and dada shortly there after. At 11 months he started to say "uh-oh", "do" for dog and he barks...LOL. I think he is part dog.

Chelsea's first words were "Hi Henry" probably because we are always yelling at our dog named Henry She was around 8 months.

see, I'm so worried and not sure if I should be. Liam doesn't say words, he is still babbling mostly (does say dada-50% towards DH). He doesn't stop babbling but isn't saying words yet.
Should I be concerned? He's 1 year old. We go tomorrow for his 1 year visit and I'll ask the Ped.
Thanks!!

I am not sure-- Sasha has been saying Mama and Dada, babba since about 7 months-- but I don't really consider those words, more sounds.
She has lately started to point at things and "say" something, but it sounds like her baby talk to me.
She is always babbling-- but I haven't picked up on any real words yet.
I am sure the doc won't be concerned.

Mama at around 7 months. Funny thing though is she really only uses it when she's whining. DH finds it sooooo hysterical!!!

M&J don't really say anything either. They babble all day and sound like they are speaking a foreign language, but have no discernible words. They have been saying "mama" "dada" etc for many months, but I don't consider these actual words because I don't think they actually have any meaning, they are just making sounds.
I think DD might be saying "cat," it sounds like "dat" and she is really overemphasizing the "t" sound.
I'm not too worried although I worried thought does cross my mind now and then. They are very verbal, so I just think one day they will start speaking in sentences!

Re: spinoff-- when did your DC say their first word, and what was it?
It was "Hi" at about 8 months and then quickly followed by mama, dada, ball, dog and then just exploded from there.

I think 18 months is the age when you should start to investigate...right now I wouldn't worry. Have you tried to teach him signs? Ronan has MANY more words than Declan and can pick them up very quickly. BUT Declan will use signs more than Ronan and once he learns the sign the word is close behind.
I teach them signs for Eat More All Done Drink

Re: spinoff-- when did your DC say their first word, and what was it?
DD said dada at 7 months, but didn't associate it with DH, so we didn't count it...at 10 months DD clearly said mama to me...she talks her own language ALLLLLL day and doesn't stop, but she has some clear words now at 13 months and tries to repeat everything we say

Re: spinoff-- when did your DC say their first word, and what was it?
How do you know when to count them as words? It sounds like most of these words weren't associated with the object/person until later.
DS babbles and says dada baba as part of the babbling, but i never considered it words.

This was my DD. But what happened was she was saying things, I just didn't realize it was a word. Even still, my DD is fairly quiet, always has been.
Just recently at 13 mths, I realized she was saying Doggie to our dogs and our other dog's name. But i didn't realize it for a while she had been saying that, I thought it was just sounds.
I count this as her first REAL word.

Sean has been saying Dada since about 5 or 6 months - I didn't consider that his 1st word though - He says Mama and Dddy (DaDEE) - but I still think he's just babbling .......He's not really saying it to refer to DH or myself -

Re: spinoff-- when did your DC say their first word, and what was it?
DS#1 at 6 months - Elva for the dog but this was his only word for a LONG time. The rest of his speech was uber late.
DS#2 was after a year and it was dada. He called me dada until just after 2.
