My kids are equally close with my mom and mil.
But I do know that my SIL's kids will always come first because they don't have any other grandparents and my MIL knows that my kids will have my parents. It is so stupid, if you ask me.

Most of the time this is just the way it goes......
just like your mom probably feels a little different towards your child than,
say, if you have a brother who has children.

Yes, but a lot of that is due to the fact that I'm really close with my mom, DH isn't. And my mom lives in the same town we do, my ILs live in FL most of the year.

Yes, but only because she lives 10 min away from us, and has been over here EVERY DAY since he was born 2 weeks ago. My mom works until 2:30 during the week, and she always comes straight here to see Joseph and give me some time alone. (That's why I can be on LIF now!  )
I try to tell her that she can go home and relax, but she says she literally can't go more than 24 hours without seeing him lol. My in-laws live in Westchester, and they have seem him twice since he was born. I guess since he is so young, this whole thing can change at anytime haha.

I can understand that, but I really don't think so.....my brother and I are both equally very close with my parents.......my brother is a mama's boy (sorry Jen!) and my mom is over the moon for both of her grandbabies.....
I just wish MIL hadn't made that comment to my mom.....it already bugs me.....

Yes!
From what i have seen and heard, i think the mil of the mom is usually closer because, let's face it a lot of the care taking usually falls on the MOM of the DC. So who is the likly person the mom is going to turn to for help and support....HER MOM. There by her mom being more involved with the dc.
