I've never gotten paranoid drinking. Also- I feel like drinking is more of a social thing- I don't drink to get drunk. However, people smoke specifically to get high.

I agree with this.

I knew a kid who smoked and it was laced with something- God knows what- he went to the hospital and was extremely sick. Chat Icon You really never know what you are going to get with that b/c since it is illegal how do you know what is in it? Regardless of if you know the person you are buying it from or not-- how do you know who THEY got it from? Mind you, my friend who got so sick- he knew who he was buying it from. Chat Icon It was very sad- he was scared for his life- he never went into details b/c I guess it was traumatic but I heard through people in our group that convulsions were involved and BAD hallucinations Chat Icon It has been a few years since this happened- he has NOT even come close to smoking since so whatever it was must have been pretty bad.

Anywho, I don't really drink to get drunk either-- I guess I'm not a "to excess" type of person. I'm pretty darn content the way things are, I handle my stress with no problem-- I seem to do a lot of things on my own and "handle them" on my own-- things that tend to be reasons people say they "have to" smoke. Who knows though- like I always say- to each their own. I was raised to do the "right thing" and I was raised in a religious household- this is just me, but when something is illegal, in my house, you just don't do it.

So, as far as drinking goes also-- a glass of white wine because I really do enjoy one (with a meal) is pretty much the extent of what I do.

I know people stated that instead of some people who get drunk and are "violent" that all you do is get "mellow"... Well, I worry about those people's senses being "dull" and them getting behind the wheel like that just as much as I worry about drunk drivers. Chat Icon

Re: Spinoff from Pot

Pot may change estrogen/testosterone hormone levels. In men, the effect can be swollen mammaries, and nipple discharge! I'm not sure what the effect on women is.

A friend of mine saw the nipple-squirt experiment done on a few guys who were habitual pot smokers!

I have gone thru a few times in my life where I smoked for months (I did love my pot) and it affected my period.

I used to smoke a lot, but now every now and then I enjoy the occasional toke (socially).

I dont do it anymore b/c it wipes out my energy and beleive it or not (gasp) I started to notice an effect on my memory (short term). Maybe that is age, but it doesnt work with my job as a teacher. It also affected my moods.

I do long for the days when I was high all the time, it was nice, but now just once in a while is good for me.

Re: Spinoff from Pot

I never smoked pot b/c I never wanted to...all of my friends did and that was their choice. I'm just very turned off by smoking in general, therefore I will never try it.
also my BIL is 100% addicted to pot...he has told us many times that he is....he goes and smokes up everyday by himself...and confessed that he doesn't necessarily want to do it, that he doesn't even get high anymore from it, he just HAS to do it.

Re: Spinoff from Pot

For ME, the difference ONLY to me is this:
I have NEVER gotten high. I took ONE hit ONE TIME ONLY.
I always coughed when I smoked cigarettes (and that was only during the experimental time) so I never wanted to experiance the coughing fits anyway. Would have bee embarrased in front of my pot smoking friendsChat Icon ...............so I never tried.

And don't get me wrong..........I was around it ALL the time. But I just NEVER had the urge to do it.

The after a few years, it became principle I guess.

I am now 32 years old and have only taken 1 hit 1 time and not because I KNEW I was doing it. (I thought it was lit cigarette being given to me in a clubChat Icon )

ETA I guess I am not sure if I even answered the OP question.

Spinoff question from the... well, spinoff... Chat Icon

For the pro-pot smokers, will you completely accept or encourage your children to smoke pot as well?

If not, why? At what age does it become acceptable, and what age did you start smoking?

I'm just curious, really. I have my opinion which will stay my opinion, but I've always wondered about this. You could say I'm naive when it comes to drug knowledge. I grew up with the worst-case-scenario addict as my role model (of what NOT to do) so that is the only experience I can really draw from.

my parents smoked a lot before they had kids. My dad always was honest and said if we smoke and get caught, it will ruin our lives. out of 7 kids...only 2 of us have ever tried it.

It's possible to like the taste of alcohol. I don't know if people smoke pot for the taste. I've never heard anyone say that, at least.

I suppose the difference to me is the intent. All people who drink alcohol don't necessarily do it to get drunk. But all people who smoke pot do it specifically to get high.

this is SOOOOOOOOO not alwys the case

and btw, pot doesnt "taste" like anything at all

Re: Spinoff from Pot

One you get your high from it affecting your liver (alcohol) and pot you get your high from it affecting your brain I believe. Also, smoking anything affects your egg quality and your lungs, etc. Drinking is mostly damaging to the liver.

Now if I am correct in saying this, the liver is an organ that can repair itself very easily and quickly. The brain not so much.

But I could be wrong, but thats my reasoning.

On top of the fact that one is illegal and one is not, and the fact that I would NEVER trust anyone at all on what exactly is the stuff in the bag made of. To me thats trusting a stranger with my life, which I would never ever do.

I have never smoked a thing in my life (cigs, pot, etc) and never will. I do like to drink here and there, but do not even touch a drink and drive that is for sure.

if they are an adult then i dont mind. but they have to be an adult. if they choose to, i dont mind honestly. i'd rather my children smoked pot every once and a while rather than smoked cigarettes. eww.

my MIL knows that my SIL, her daughter, smokes pot. i dont think she knows that DH & I do , but she doesnt seem to care all that much at all!

probably because pot really isnt abig deal.

You have no hangover if you smoke your brains out. I would prefer a fatty to a beer or glass of wine any day.

ummm - no - I'm sorry. If this were the case, almost every guy I went to college with would be able to start their own la leche league.

if you look long enough you can find an article/study that will support any view....the nipple thing is a bit absurd and certainly isn't a "common" side effect

I know only 2"friends" that have smoked pot often...out of over 25. Not the norm for most people I know.

I dont mean drunk. I mean psychotic, that doest go away. The kind of psychotic that you think someone is possessed by the devil and you were sent by God to save the world. So you shoot and kill your entire family in their sleep psychotic.

And that is only one example of my experience of marijuana induced psychosis.

The effects of alcohol go away very quickly. Marijuana seems to linger in some people.
