We bought our house in 2004 and putting only 5% down was rather common. We took $10,000 out of savings and withdrew $10,000 out of DH's 401K. We paid a penalty on the 401K withdrawal. We did an 85-15-5, which doesn't really exist nowadays. Basically, we have a standard mortgage for 85% and a home equity for 15%.

We saved our own money and paid for it ourselves. We did not borrow from our 401ks, parents, or anyone else.
same! saved 20% plus
soooo hard we were also paying the mort/maint on our apt 
I 'm a little bitter that parents didn't help both sets have $ one set has A LOT and didn't help us they don't know this though 
our life would have been easier

we used our savings we had started as teens
my parents did give us half of our wedding gift early to cover the closing costs

The first home we bought was an FHA loan and we only had to put 3% down, which we had in savings. We also purchased a home warranty which helped ith repairs so we wouldn;t have huge OOP expenses.
The house we are buying now, we are currently renting and the owner proposed that we purchase it. He is applying all of our rent until we close to a DP and we also have $$ in savings.

I voted the first, savings and investments, but it wasn't anything borrowed from our 401Ks or anything. DH saved all his money and put a lot in stocks, and sold them at a good profit. We put 33% down.

We worked our $sses off and saved for five years It was so hard. Then we got married, paid for our own wedding, and we got some seriously generous gifts that helped as well.

We put 10% down. We never saved b/c we were living in an apt. fine until there was a hostage situation down our block  and all I wanted to do was leave that neighborhood...FAST. We were in the middle of planning and paying for our wedding. We put 10% down from money DH had from his father passing away and I paid the closing costs with savings bonds/stocks I cashed in.
