Spinoff question related to co-sleepers, bassinets and cribs
Ok, so we're going to be getting the Arm's Reach co-sleeper and plan on having the baby sleep in it in our room for about six months. The baby will nap in it. Around the six month mark we will be moving to a new home.
So, I'm wondering - is there a need for us to buy a crib and set up a whole nursery before we move? The co-sleeper and the changing station are on wheels, so are able to move freely around our current home. We already planned on having the glider in our bedroom for me to nurse.
I just don't want to buy and set up a crib and an entire nursery that is essentially gonna collect dust until we move and then have to break it all down, move it and then set it up again.
Did that make sense?
Any thoughts?
Thanks ladies!

If you're not going to use a nursery at all, and like you said, it's just going 'collect dust' I'd just wait until you move ..........No point in doing all of that work twice !

Re: Spinoff question related to co-sleepers, bassinets and cribs
I am in the same boat as you...DH and I plan on moving after the baby is born...hopefully around the 6mo- 1yr mark. We are not doing a nursery either, but are you going to register for the bedding and accessories and stuff for the nursery and just keep in boxes until you move?

Re: Spinoff question related to co-sleepers, bassinets and cribs
My only thinking is that you may want to switch the baby into it's own room before 6 months. I wanted to keep my DS in the bassinet for three months but he outgrew it at 2.5months (and it was a BIG bassinet - but he was also a big boy)
But - if you don't mind the baby in your room for that long than I don't think it's a big deal!

I'm in the same boat as you. We bought a cradle and are keeping him in our room and just waiting til we buy a house to set up the nursery with the crib and stuff.

Re: Spinoff question related to co-sleepers, bassinets and cribs
Thanks for all the input!
Now that its been mentioned, I do wonder if our six month plan will change (baby grows out of co-sleeper etc..) and then we'll be left crib-less. Hmm....
are you going to register for the bedding and accessories and stuff for the nursery and just keep in boxes until you move?
Well, we're buying a blanket, some pillows and prints (all for decor purposes) that I fell in love with and don't want to suddenly disappear. And yeah, we'd just keep those boxed up until the move. We won't be registering for or buying a dresser or armoire or anything like that. Although, we're deep in the middle of trying to make all these decisions, so who knows what we'll end up with!!
Thanks again guys!

Re: Spinoff question related to co-sleepers, bassinets and cribs
We are also hoping to move within 6 months or so after the baby is born. We are setting up a crib and a dresser, but using minimal decorations. Not going to crazy with the furniture. If we have to move it, then it will get moved.
A lot of people change their sleeping plans once the baby is born b/c what works for some babies doesn't work for others. Some people tried the cosleeper, but hated it, so they put the baby in the nursery to sleep instead.

Re: Spinoff question related to co-sleepers, bassinets and cribs
When my 1st was born I figured he would be in our room at least 4 months. He was such a good sleeper but noisy while he slept and it would keep me up. So by the 4th night he was in his crib. My second went in the crib day 1. This baby will go in the crib day 1 as well.
I also always napped my kids in their cribs. I felt it helped them get used to being in there.

Re: Spinoff question related to co-sleepers, bassinets and cribs
i think it entirely depends on you and your preference...
no matter what or how - the baby will be in our room for at LEAST 4-6 months. The layout of our apartment puts out bedroom at the opposite end of the house from the nursery. I just would not feel safe having her so far away that early on.
we're doing the co-sleeper and once she grows out of that, maybe will consider the pack n play or another portable option.
if we were planning to move this year - we would not set up the crib, etc...because moving it would be one heck of a pain!

Re: Spinoff question related to co-sleepers, bassinets and cribs
I didnt order DD's crib until she was 5 months old. She went into it at 6mths - she was on our room until then in her cradle. Sometimes I think I may have waited too long to transition her but I was EBF so it was easier for me.
Cribs are a pain to assemble so if you can avoid putting it up and down I would.
Is there a chance you will move before she is 6mths?

ITA. Honestly, you're not going to know what works until the baby is born. I had all kinds of plans that were thrown out the window b/c DS hates the PNP and the crib. DS is almost 3 months old and only sleeps in my arms. We could've lived without the crib so far (though I hope that will change soon), but you may find that the crib is where your child sleeps best.

Re: Spinoff question related to co-sleepers, bassinets and cribs
Nope there probably isn't a need. We had our daughter in a bassinett for the first few months & we waited to set up the crib until we were using it. We plan to do the same thing this time.

Re: Spinoff question related to co-sleepers, bassinets and cribs
If your not going to be using the nursery until you move then why bother putting it all together now. As long as you have what you need for the time being why put the extra stuff around that you won't need or use yet.
