Re: Spinoff to Auto Industry: Are your cars Foreign or Domestic?
2.5 are domestic - the .5 is a 1960s Mustang that is waiting (and probably never will be) rebuilt.
.5 is foreign - .5 because it's going to be junked after long hard life.

Re: Spinoff to Auto Industry: Are your cars Foreign or Domestic?
we both drive Mazdas, but they are kind of hybrids, if you will. While the parent company is a foreign company, they partner with Ford and our cars (the 3 and the 6) are both assembled here in the US with union workers. We used to drive a ford and a saturn, but they died quickly and early in their lives, so we went for the more reliable Mazda.
eta, i stand corrected. our 3 was made in Japan. ugh.

Found a site that lists what country cars are built in. It's not a convenient chart, so you have to drill down for each manufacturer, but I'll post a few of them to show how "foreign" or "American" cars are....

That's very interesting. I didn't realize so many Nissans were made in the US. (Disclaimer: I know nothing about cars.)
Of course if this list is the same for previous years, we have one made not in the US.

Re: Spinoff to Auto Industry: Are your cars Foreign or Domestic?
I think of my Mazda as pretty much an American car. As other posters mentioned, Ford has a large ownership stake in Mazda and my car was built in Michigan.

Re: Spinoff to Auto Industry: Are your cars Foreign or Domestic?
we have a honda accord DH gets a ford 500 through his business. the ford is TERRIBLE- seriously. while it doesn't have serious problems- it just rides really sluggish- not enough horsepower for such a big vehicle. no acceleration and it's a v6. and people wonder why American cars don't sell.
ETA- i used to have a Ford Focus- was a GREAT car- loved it.... got it based on consumer rating- but it was manufactured in mexico.

Re: Spinoff to Auto Industry: Are your cars Foreign or Domestic?
we both have nissans. and before DH's current car - a pathfinder - he had another nissan (an altima).
i'd love to buy domestic, but nissan cars have held up so well for us. my altima is ten years old and has over 100K on it and the only problems I have ever had have been routine wear and tear. DH had the same experience with his Altima. And, so far, so good with the Pathfinder. So, I guess we have brand loyalty now.

One car, foreign. I hate to say it, but I probably won't buy American until they can make better cars again at better prices.

Foreign.
If the US got off its azz to make nicer, affordable cars, I'd consider buying American. Right now I am happy to be in my fuel efficient VW!
