Not us. We have about 10k.

But I did just get an inheritance from my Grandfather and I paid alot of our debt off. We did fall in that category at the beginning of the year.

Let me also add that you typically have to open a new credit card with a 0% offer, then somehow try to move your credit limit from one card to the card with the 0% offer (within the same bank). That's how you have to do it since most of your existing cards with big limits don't have good offers.

Not all banks will do this too. It requires a LOT of research.

I'm sure it does take a lot of research. While it works for you I feel it's a dangerous game to play and I rather live my debt free life.

This is very very interesting.
I only have 3 cards right now- with a pretty high total limit- but I would possibly want to get a mortgage soon so not for right now. But I did book mark it- could be fun to do down the road and when the fed raises the interest rates

Yeah most of my transfers are up by October/November (with the rest up in March of 09) so I still have time. If the interest rates remain crappy, I may sit on the sidelines for a bit. We'll see.

Hopefully the fed raises the rates a bit by then. I love making free money so if there is money to be made, i'm there. Chat Icon

We always have a large CC balance, usually $8k-$10k, but that's because we make our big purchases on 0% interest cards, and pay off the balance over a year. That's what we did to purchase our two cars, make renovations on our home and finance some of the construction costs on our investment property. We always pay off the balance within 12 months so we end up not paying any interest. Chat Icon

i am going to be honest, we are in over 45k of cc debt. after i had dd i didnt work as much and essentially charged a year's salary on the cards. we are working very hard in getting out of it. i read dave ramseys total money makeover, based on a suggestion here and it has helped tremendously.

I have a little debt...actually I have the cash in the bank to cover it but I prefer to pay off the debt instead of using all my cash cover it since I am single and have to make sure I can take care of myself in any situation.

With that said, this thread makes me feel much less alone in my debt!

$0

we pay it off in full every month. we only buy what we know we can pay off.

same here... but I am thankful that we have been blessed and have had no major emergencies where we could have to charge.

I think some people get caught up in credit card debt because they're wasteful and want the newest clothes and this and that and they're just irresponsible.

A lot of other get credit card debt because life happens... hospital bills, emergencies, etc. and by no fault of their own, they're forced to charge.

Re: Spinoff to credit or debit post: How much credit card debt do you have? w/poll

We have much more credit card debt than we are comfortable with--about $15,000.

Unfortunately, those were all expenses that racked up right before we moved to NC. We spent every last penny we had on the down payment for our house, and then we needed to pay for the moving truck, and about 20 sets of blinds when we moved in. It really added up, and now we're stuck with it. Chat Icon

I'm thankful that DH and I together have a really good income that we are still comfortable. But still, I dream of the day where we're not paying out $1000 a month to credit card companies. Chat Icon

Re: Spinoff to credit or debit post: How much credit card debt do you have? w/poll

we have one credit card that's about 8k... started off at 11k but since getting 0% we've been paying it down slowly but surely and don't add anything to it.
the only other credit card with debt is our discover and it's for gas purchses only. it's prob around 7k. we make about a 500-600 payment every month, but we're spending about 1k in gas every month and just can't keep up Chat Icon
other than that, we just paid off 2 credit cards not long ago and have vowed that other than gas or an emergency, if we won't have the money for it on our next paycheck, don't buy it.

we have about 2900 and i can't stand that. i was always taught to pay off cc debt asap. our stim. check will bring that down to 1700 though and then when our 0 percent interest is over this summer, i will borrow $ from our savings and pay ourselves back.
