Spinoff to eye color....why are we so down on brown?
Not seriously, but why is there such a stigma attached to brown eyes? I have brown eyes and I happen to think they are nice and have gotten my share of compliments on them.
But in no way does it compare to blue or the even rarer green.... Why do we think that is?
And this goes for myself as well, I prayed my son would have blue eyes and DH said the same...

I have NO idea! But I totally understand what you mean.
My DS has really light green eyes and DD has the most gorgeous brown eyes ever.. They are big, brown, but a light brown where you can see her pupil. I love them.

I hear what you are saying. I too secretly wished for DD to have blue or hazel like me, however she has the most beautiful big brown eyes and lashes to go with it. she's gorgeous

Re: Spinoff to eye color....why are we so down on brown?
I totally understand what you mean. I was thinking the same thing recently. It is not just color that makes an eye. It is also the size, shape, long eye lashes etc. Maybe it is because brown eyes seem to be more predominant. I wonder if brown eyes were less predominant and everyone had blue eyes if everyone would want brown eyes. Right now I am not sure what color my DS eyes will be and I do not care. He has beautiful big eyes and long eye lashes. My MIL and other people have said don't you hope he has blue has. My MIL has blue eyes. I said I do not care what color eyes he has. Don't get me wong I have seen some babies with the most beautiful blue and green eyes, but I have also seen babies with beautiful brown eyes. I remember when I was a little girl I used to wish I had blue eyes. It is so crazy.

Re: Spinoff to eye color....why are we so down on brown?
DH has hazel and I have brown. DD has blue/green - i assumed they'd change but haven't yet. It used to almost annoy me because i wanted her to have one of our color. i never really wished for any particular eye color though
now i sometimes get annoyed when i hear she is all DH - yeah i had nothing to do with it

I dont know...I actually find dark eyes/dark hair much more attractive than light, but I know thats not the norm.

I know what you mean. My DH has blue eyes and I have brown. Everyone said that they hoped DD got his eyes. Although they are a beautiful color blue, what's wrong with brown? She ended up with hazel.

Re: Spinoff to eye color....why are we so down on brown?
Im not sure what the big deal is either...I had brown eyes but in the last five years or so they have changed to more of a hazel/green colour...DH has grey eyes...im sure DD will have brown eyes, i have no problem with this she can see and thats all that matters!

That's the color brown that I have and I have received many nice comments about them. DH has green eyes - I love his eyes butnot so much because they are green but because of how wide they are and his long lashes. DS got a mix...my color and shape (almond) and DH's lashes.

Re: Spinoff to eye color....why are we so down on brown?
I don't know why blue eyes are considered preferable. I really don't care, eye color is such a small thing--DSs are very blue now, but mine are brown (DHs are blue), so he could go either way.
Both are beautiful.

Re: Spinoff to eye color....why are we so down on brown?
I never really knew that eye color was such a big deal, never even thought about it untill I read this post. I have brown eyes and they are my best features, constantly get compliments on how beautiful they are, my DH has green eyes and also very nice , my DD has brown eyes and they are beautiful, everywhere we go people go crazy about her eyes, they have such nice shape and longest lashes, we never even thought of her eye color when I was pregnant or when she was first born.

Re: Spinoff to eye color....why are we so down on brown?
good point, i don't know where the anti-brown comes from, but i have brown eyes myself and i SO wished for DS to have DH's greenish/hazel eyes. turns out he has brownish/hazel and i love them... but i'll admit to wishing they wouldn't be brown before he was born...
something about green and blue eyes is more exotic to me. maybe because no one in my family has any color other than brown...

I was so happy when I saw Julia's eyes turned green like mine, but then they changed to brown at a year and stayed that way, but I love them cause she has my DH's eye color and they are brown with a vanilla swirl in the middle, its cool.

This is 100% true. I happen to come from a family of 40+ people incl aunts, uncles and cousins where ONE person has brown... and I always wished for brown eyes when I was little. They just seemed so exotic to me
Oddly enough, though, I'm just giddy that DS totally has my family's eyes (dark blue with the long, dark curly eyelashes) but that might just be because it means he looks a little like me

That's funny. I used to have a saying about never trusting a blue-eyed guy.
I'll admit that I wanted my kids to have my eye color (green) but DH's eyes shape & eyelashes (his are big brown eyes with long eyelashes).
Didn't work that way for Maddie but now that I see her big beautiful brown eyes - I wouldn't want them any other way.
eta. I also think that when they're first born, their eyes are such an unusual color that's why I didn't want the to change. Joseph's were grey-blue, Maddies' were deep sapphire. I'd never seen eyes that color before...and to be even more honest about it, when they're first born & we're so in love with them...except for sleeping better, we don't want them to change one iota.

Re: Spinoff to eye color....why are we so down on brown?
I happen to LOVE brown eyes. I wanted my eyes to be brown my whole life.
My older son has blue eyes and my younger has green and I think they are both perfect - but I would have LOVED to have a brown eyed child... but with my green eyes and Rob's blue eyes I think genetics is against me.

Re: Spinoff to eye color....why are we so down on brown?
I don't know! My mom always said she wished that my sister or I got my dad's hazel eyes.
And then when DS was born, everyone said the same about DS' eyes, that they hoped they stayed blue like DH's
Don't even get me started on red hair, which I convinced my DS is going to have!

I always wonder the same thing about brown....my nephew has beautiful brown eyes but for the longest time my SIL kept saying his eyes were every color but brown. I love brown eyes. I love them with dark hair and I especially love dark eyes and blond hair.

Re: Spinoff to eye color....why are we so down on brown?
I wanted DD to have my fathers eye color- they are blue/green/gray- really striking. DH has light brown/green eyes that are also stunning. DD has my MIL's milk dud brown eyeballs and I think they are beautiful. Even as a newborn, her eyes were brown. I never remember them being blue at all. I love love love her eyes !
