Re: Spinoff to my kiddo sleeping: so how do YOU put your 1yr old to sleep (long)
Kaydyn gets dinner at my ILs around 5:30 We pick her up around 6/6:30 We get home around 7:30pm DH and I eat (we give her a snack or some nibbles of our food) Around 8:30/9 we give her a sippy of milk Around 9/9:30 she gets her pjs on (MIL gives her a bath everyday at her house in the AM) We will read or sit down and watch a Noggin show She goes to bed around 9:30/10 We wake her up at 7:30am to leave for my ILs/On the weekend she will sleep until 8:30/9am usually
I would love to put her to bed earlier, but we generally don't get home until 7:30/8 and I want to spend a little time with her before she goes to sleep.
She takes one nap a day for 2-3 hours at my ILs.

Re: Spinoff to my kiddo sleeping: so how do YOU put your 1yr old to sleep (long)
dinner playtime bath (every other night) bottle bed
we read books during the day - it's not a nighttime thing.
we did CIO at 5 months so now when he cries it's only for 30 seconds to a few minutes at most. he puts himself to sleep with his lovey. some nights he falls asleep quickly. sometimes not so quickly. and while we try to stick to a 7/7:30pm bedtime, sometimes we are out and about and he doesn't go to bed until 8:30/9pm. no harm done. he just naps more the next day.
ETA: he wakes up at 7am just about every morning. and he just transitioned to one nap a day and sleeps from 2-3 hours.

Re: Spinoff to my kiddo sleeping: so how do YOU put your 1yr old to sleep (long)
I didn't see the other post, just responding to this one.
Generally we do: Dinner Bath Bottle Books Bed (around 7:30, he usually is asleep by 8)
Rather than suggest you follow my schedule, I am going to suggest a few things. You guys have to find your own groove, following someone else's schedule may not work for you.
We don't eat with DS. He won't eat what we eat generally, but mainly, he won't wait until DH gets home to eat, because he is hungry as soon as we get home. I might feed her dinner earlier and skip the snack, if you want her to get to bed earlier. If you don't mind a later bedtime, than stick with what you are doing.
I don't think a nap when you get home is helping. When my DS was about a year old, he transitioned to one nap per day at daycare. It is often a long nap (2 hrs) but that's what he does. I think letting her take a nap before dinner might be prolonging your nighttime routine, because she has gotten a second wind. I'd skip the late nap and try just putting her down for the night a little earlier.
We didn't really do CIO, but I would let him cry for 5 or 10 minutes at that age, and most of the time he would drop off to sleep.
If you want to start a nighttime routine of reading, get two books. Let her hold/chew one and read the other one. Often times now, my DS will be paging through a different book while I am reading to him. He does follow what I am reading, though, because if I skip a page, he makes sure I go back to it. For us, the reading routine is important. If I try to put him down without reading at least one book, no matter how tired he is, we have a meltdown.
I might also try a bath every night, even if it's just a short one. If she likes the bath, and it relaxes her, it might help her get to sleep. I know my DS goes down much easier the nights he has a bath. I try to give him one every night and just moisturize him a lot.
Whatever you do, I think consistency is key and don't try to introduce too many changes all at once - it throws them. Good luck.

Re: Spinoff to my kiddo sleeping: so how do YOU put your 1yr old to sleep (long)
I have 3 kids. Never a problem with bedtime because I am consistent and a drill sargent when it comes to bedtime...
For my 18 month old it has been this routine forever:
7:00 bath/changing 7:15 story 7:30 put in the crib with her eyes open.
7 month old twins
7:00 bath 7:15 bottles 7:30 crib with their eyes open. EVEN if we have to WAKE THEM up, yes, wake them up, to let them know they are in their cribs. They must learn to fall asleep on their own rather than on the bottle.
My husband and I alternate who takes the older daughter and who is taking the twins...
Right now, our night times REVOLVE around THEIR bedtime, it is THAT important. All other activities, duties, chores take second place.
On a side note, my first dd was sttn since 7 weeks old... The twins sleeping through the night at 12 weeks (much later due to the fact that they were preemies).
I contribute all of this to Dr. Feber! All hail Dr. Ferber!!!!
Good Luck.

Re: Spinoff to my kiddo sleeping: so how do YOU put your 1yr old to sleep (long)
- Reilly eats dinner around 5pm (we eat after she goes to bed) - Gets teeth brushed - Hangs out and plays/rolls on floor - 6:45pm-7pm she gets her bottle - We put her in the crib whenever she is done with it - Sometimes she babbles/talks to the angels - Sometimes she knocks right out once she hits the crib - Never had a problem with going to bed at night but we did do CIO for naps for 4 days - She wakes up at 7am-7:30am each morning - She is a waaay easy baby...
Hang in there! Whatever works for you, DH and AJ. I am an advocate for 12 hours of sleep per night so *I* would put her down earlier, but that is just me. There is no rule.

Re: Spinoff to my kiddo sleeping: so how do YOU put your 1yr old to sleep (long)
When I first went back to work it became obvious that DD needed to go to bed earlier than I had been putting her down (9:00) because she was falling asleep on the way home from the sitter and staying asleep for hours. I kept moving her routine earlier and earlier until eventually we found a time that worked.
She eats dinner at 6:45 (we eat after she's in bed) playtime bath around 7:15 pajamas and good night kisses to daddy books (she just started letting me read to her a few weeks ago at 20 months) bottle (we're eliminating this now) bed 7:30-7:45
I put her down in her crib, kiss her good night and walk out of the room. She falls asleep on her own.

Re: Spinoff to my kiddo sleeping: so how do YOU put your 1yr old to sleep (long)
Wow! I don't think anyone was trying to make you feel like a moron in your other post. You were shocked that your DD slept for 12 hours and we were all saying that could be her way of letting you know that she needs to go to bed earlier.
We don't live your life - we don't know what time you have to eat dinner - we don't know your nightly routine. Do what works best for you but don't come on here and get upset with people who are just trying to help you.

Re: Spinoff to my kiddo sleeping: so how do YOU put your 1yr old to sleep (long)
DD is 15months and we used to do 7pm but she was better staying up a lil later so now we do 8pm bedtime and she used to eat at 5pm now we realized she eats better at 7pm and 8pm bedtime...she is out cold w/ her cuddly hippo in the bed. Definitly do what works for you! I hate advice where people tell YOU what to do...what works for one child may or may not work for another...shop around ideas and do what is best for you and your baby.

Re: Spinoff to my kiddo sleeping: so how do YOU put your 1yr old to sleep (long)
We don't have a big routine, I just try to follow his lead as best as I can.
Dinner around 5/5:30 Bath after dinner Playtime Bottle around 7 Play some more until he shows me that he wants to go to bed (sits on my lap, rubs his eyes). Bedtime is 8pm, but most nights he goes to sleep before 7:30.
I sing him a quick song, give him a kiss and put him down to sleep. Some days he goes to sleep right away, some days he sings for a while until he goes to sleep.

Re: Spinoff to my kiddo sleeping: so how do YOU put your 1yr old to sleep (long)
So we keep watching her now. Trying to see if we're missing some 'sign'
Mostly she's just looking back at us like we're crazy
Yesterday she walked around the house with her towel. We have come to conclusion that's her way of saying she's tired. Gave her a bath, bottle and she crashed.
She's gonig to bed around 8:30-9pm (which is a lil earlier and fine by us)
And she's waking up at 7am, which can't even get better honestly.
So I guess its all working out.
I think mostly its just her settling into a new schedule on her own. There was an article that said as they begin to walk they will wake up in the middle of the night (and boy was that dead on) and then they settle back to their old routine and I guess that's what this is.
Thanks everybody.
PS: some of your ideas are awesome and we're probably going to try to work some in. We moved her glider out of her room, and we may need to move it back into her room. I tried again to read her a book. She was delighted but got bored of it by midway through second reading (it was like 8 pages). She was much happier watching her PreSchool Prep "meet the colors". It relaxed her. Then it was bathtime which woke her up, but the bottle put her out!
Just got to wear her out!
Hope this keeps up tho, its nice being able to sleep through the night!

Re: Spinoff to my kiddo sleeping: so how do YOU put your 1yr old to sleep (long)
I am a firm believer in doing what works for you and your family!
DS has never gone to bed earlier than 8:30pm...generally I start our routine at 8:30 which is brush teeth, PJs, up to 3 stories and bed.
How he goes to bed has changed over the past 2 years. He never went to bed on his own until about 19 months. Until then I rocked him. There was a time where it would take DH and I an hour of rocking him to get him to sleep. But let me tell you that if I try to put DS to bed at say 8pm...he will sit in his crib until 9 talking, playing, crying but he will not fall asleep.
My nephew who is 8 now, used to watch Baby Einstein with the lights off to fall asleep.
My niece who is 3 just crashes whenever...
Dont worry, your DD is healthy and happy and thats all that matters, do what works for you!
