spinoff to my own post - Public or Private?

To be honest, I do not live in a district where we are all that interested in the public schools.

Will you be sending your children to public or private schools? And if its private, which one?

Re: spinoff to my own post - Public or Private?

we do live in a district thats considered one of the best in our county BUT im still thinking whether i want to do that and im leaning toward sending dd to catholic school/private school when the time comes for two more personal reasons:

dh and i both went to catholic schools and my nephews go to the catholic school right now that we would want to send dd to and that would put my mind at ease that her cousins would be looking after her

eta of course sending her catholic school is also the best way to give her an excellent education AND her religious education all in one

Public. We live in Stony Brook and the Three Village School District is excellent. We made sure to buy our house in the nicest school district we could afford. Chat Icon

My kids are going to Catholic school. It has absolutely nothing to do with our district, just the fact I want them to have the religious aspect with their education, the same way I was raised.

ETA: My oldest will start K in September and he's all registered and set! Chat Icon I'll add to that my DH was public schools his whole life and he's on board with the Catholic school education!

Re: spinoff to my own post - Public or Private?

Dh wants our kids to go to Catholic school and I dont (he went to Catholic School and I went to public). Im not a big religion supporter.

Plus, we pay $$$$$ in taxes so why should I shell out a few thousand more for a private school? I figured I went to public school, got a college degree, got a good job and turned out ok. So if it was ok for me, it will be good for my kids.

We dont live in a good school district right now though. We are planning on moving before Seamus starts school so we will be looking for a good school district.

Well, its sort of a combination really. Its a public school, but its run by the Church of England, they do teach RE but its a non-secular school, with a mixed religious student base. we don't have to pay for it though, its covered in our council tax.

Re: spinoff to my own post - Public or Private?

Depends on where we will be living. If e Move Out of state it will be to an area with a great public school district and so public.....

IF we stay here it will be private w/o a doubt.

I started at Private school till mid elementary school and the difference in my education I felt was huge.

I'm a bit old fashioned though and am SERIOUSLY concerned with the way todays kids are growing up, their influences etc. and while yes they will be influenced no matter what school, I do think a private or catholic school will focus more on education and well theres a bunch of reasons I can name.

I dont pay taxes to a school district, we dont own a home and I would work 2 jobs to put my sons education first.

I feel the same way. I went to Catholic school growing up and I really like the school. I'm pretty sure DS will go there.

They're already in public. I love our school district. I feel like that really go out of their way for their students & the community.

We did try private school for kindergarten since our district is only half-day but hated, hated, hated it. The school (Trinity Regional) was great, the education in my opinoin top-notch. The principal was a raving meglo-maniac who is still lucky she refunded our tuition after the cr@p that she pulled. I don't think I've ever had such a viceral reaction to someone in my life. While I'd like to think the best of people & maybe it was a one-time situation with us, I've heard from too many other parents that she's pulled similar things with them & their child. (Sorry for the hjiack but 3 years later, I'm still furious.)

Private. We are hoping for either Waldorf or Friend's Academy. I was kind of put off a bit by Waldorf's "no media" policy, but my convictions are not as important right now as their education.

Public

I think that a good education is not JUST about the school, or the district, but about the student and the support he or she gets from home.

We live in a very good school district and my DD will attend public elementary school. However, for middle and high school I am leaning towards private, non-secular school.

Public. When we were househunting, we specifically looked in towns with great schools.

Public...I pay a boatload in school taxes and the district is very good. There are some aspects of private school that I like as well but I don't think they outweigh the public school in my area.

ITA. For me it's important for my child to have a religious backround and it's something DH and I won't be able to give her. It's the same school my father went to...and my sister and I went to. It's a great school and I won't think twice about sending DD there.

When it comes time for HS...that will be a discussion DH and I will have to have and see where we are at and see where our children are at.
