Re: spinoff to my own post - Public or Private?
Public, only because Hauppauge is a great SD (I also went there).

I'm a bit old fashioned though and am SERIOUSLY concerned with the way todays kids are growing up, their influences etc. and while yes they will be influenced no matter what school, I do think a private or catholic school will focus more on education and well theres a bunch of reasons I can name.
I don't know that this really has anything to do with a public v. private education though. My SILs go to private Catholic school and they are the perfect example of what most people would say have bad influnences. And they always have. I actually think they are WORSE when it comes to "NEEDING" the best of everything. My SILs cousin has a PORSCHE CAYENNE at 17 years old.
Their brother goes to public school (for now) and he doesn't have the same pressures they do...at all.

If we continue to live within the city limits of Chicago, our kids will be going to private school. If we move to the burbs, they'll be going to public.

Re: spinoff to my own post - Public or Private?
We are on the fence. The public school is free, gets good reports and is a 5 min drive from our house. The private school we are considering is a catholic school, we would have to pay of course and is a 30 min drive away. The main reason I am thinking about the catholic school is we are raising our dd to be catholic but I know my dh and I wont be up to speed with the religious side of things so she will miss out.
We have not decided yet.

Public. We bought a house in a great school district so we wouldn't have to send DS to private.

Since we're moving to NC in a month and the school system isn't the best....Frankie will be going to private school! (I've actually thought about homeschooling as an option)

Re: spinoff to my own post - Public or Private?
My kids will be going to public school, but our school district is a very good one. If it wasn't, then I would probably want to send them to private.

We live in a good SD, but DH still wants DD to go to private school. He wants her to go to Friends Academy.

definitely public school, otherwise we wouldn't live in a town where we have to pay so much school taxes...

Re: spinoff to my own post - Public or Private?
Not sure yet. I'm in Sachem, too (wow! A lot of us here!) and I've heard very mixed things about the school district when it gets to the upper levels. Three people who went there or taught in the high school told me it's awful. I don't want to believe it because I like it here and can't afford private school.

Re: spinoff to my own post - Public or Private?
Public...As a matter of fact same district I went to
DH went to Catholic School. He's not against it (neither am I), but, its $$$$$
Our children will get their religious education outside of school, like my siblings and I did.

Re: spinoff to my own post - Public or Private?
Public school- We made sure to buy our home in a district with an excellent school district. I am a public school teacher and am all for public education- DH went to Catholic School for most of his education but feels strongly about public education as well.

Re: spinoff to my own post - Public or Private?
Because of my district dd will be attending public school. If I were in another district I would go private possibly catholic like St. Pats for k-7 and then a non-religious private high school.
If I had the $ my kids would all go to Friends Academy.
