Spinoff to Palin's daughter and Obama...I have to say this...
Kudos to Obama for being such a class act regarding Palin's daughter. Kudos to Palin's family and her daughter for sticking to their beliefs and not aborting this baby.
I think it is sad that the media was giddy over this news. I mean she is a minor, yet her situation is being plastered everywhere. Anyway, I have a lot of respect for how all the candidates are handling this, no matter who you like or will be voting for you have to admit, they are all being very classy about this. The media, is another story.
I just want to add...Obama's mom was 18 when she became pregnant with him. She chose NOT to abort and keep her baby. He is now a candidate for president. Just a little factoid I wanted to throw in as something to think about...

I agree w/you
I also want to add that Obamas mother was a single mom who raised 2 kids. she worked AND went to school to get her degree. she had a LOT of help from her parents who no doubt helped raise Obama and his sister.
a lot of people back then would have probably said she should move in w/her parents, so she could raise her children properly.... not work and get a degree.

EXACTLY. By her working and getting her degree, I feel she set an AWESOME example for Obama and his sister. She practiced what she preached & showed them an amazing example of HOW to overcome adversity in life.
I also think that Palin and her daughter are practicing what they preach and setting an example of how to overcome adversity and not take the "easy way out" of a bad situation.
This situation and how it was handled by both Obama and Palin and McCain's camp makes me VERY proud to be an American today. Also, I have A LOT more respect for both Obama and Palin then I have before this all came out.

Maybe I'm reading into your post but saying having an abortion is the "easy way out" is a bit of a judgement. I am sure that most women who have had to make that decision didn't look at it as an "easy way out".
IMO I would always women and teens have the right to choose than be forced to have babies they don't want. Maybe Bristol Palin wants this baby and kudos to her family for supporting her but this situation is not typical of a lot of teen pregnancies and IMO the often unwanted children are the ones who suffer in the end.

I agree with the kudos to Obama. I applaud Palin's daughter for making a choice and applaud our country for having CHOICES.

Not to mention his father was black, which was just unheard of back then. It could not have been easy for her, and it won't be easy for Palin's daughter either. The media needs to back off.

.
I do not THINK it is an "easy decision". However, I feel that choosing to have a baby as a teen mother and raising that baby or giving that baby up for adoption is a harder decision and one that is self-less and self-sacrificing. You are giving another human being a chance to live and live with a family who desperately and passionately wants a child to love and nurture. A family that would not take for granted for a second the sacrifice that mother made to give them her child.
OR
That child will be living with their mother who 99% of the time will love, nurture and cherish that child.
Heck, maybe that all of that love, nurturing, self-sacrificing spirit and work ethic would rub off and propel that child through Harvard? Maybe that Harvard graduate would run for President of the USA??? Just maybe...

I think we'll have to agree to disagree on this one. I don't think it's generally as idealistic as you make it out to be.

Maybe not...But I DO NOT believe that it is all doom and gloom for those who decide to keep their children and raise them (even as teen parents) or those who decide to give those children up for adoption.
Will will agree to disagree.

I do wonder, though, if marrying the father of the baby is really Brisol Palin's choice, or her mother's. I respect that she's going to have the baby, but I would not support a 17 year old marrying, even if it was something she wanted.
