there are some people on the boards living in other countries .... it would be interesting to see what they think about the whole thing --- if they could give an idea about the outlook other people have about Bush, the administration, and our country...

I can not stand to look at his face...can not bloody stand it. Everytime I meet someone new they almost ALWAYS comment on the president...taxi drivers, people in shops, even my work colleagues!!! I am not really a political animal, so I can only comment on what I know...

One thing I think is that everyone is like America is the best country in the world, blah blah blah, but SO many other countries have it so much better!!! I honestly believe that my quality of life is much better in the UK, for one thing, we have socialised medicine (which I think is fantastic...) our maternity leave policy is fantastic, we get money from the government for our children until they are 18, We also have six months pay from the govrnment, we work long hours and our pay is not as high as the states, but I love the British way of life!!! So thats what I can say!

I really hate when I come home to NY and I tell people about something they seem to think that any other country outside of the US is a third world nation..guess what peope, we have COMPUTERS here in England, we have DVD Players...my god, we have more technology than you guys do! We invented the pocket calculator and the Sinclair C5! Get a grip!!

but how much of your paycheck do you get to take home... 40%? and how long do you have to wait to get an appt for the dentist or a doctor?

OMG no, I pay 23% taxes! You only pay 40% of any money that you make over something like £40K.....and I can usually see my doctor same day and/or next day. They have open surgeries where you call the afternoon before and they give you a time to come in the next morning!!! See, I think Americans think we are waiting months for appointments! There are things that you do have to wait for, but when I had a breast cancer scare I got (all within an hour) a mammogram, a biopsy, a sonogram and within a week, an MRI...

well that is fantastic! maybe I'll move to the UK IMO, I think it is uncivilized that women only get 3 months off for maternity leave. it's really pathetic! Canadian moms get a YEAR off with PAY

I should tell you that I have been waiting since August to have a mole removed...and that mole is p*issed off.

eta...going to the dentist in the UK is a bit of a palaver, I for example go to a private dentist, which I have to pay for...HOWEVER I do take good care of my teethies so I don't have to lay out too much money, but when I needed a new crown, it only cost me £300, which is about $500...NHS Dentists have a long waiting list. But still, if you wait, you don't have to pay...so unless you have an emergency, its not so bad!!!
