spinoff to shelly's post - DO you give compliments to strangers ?
Do you randomly give compliments to strangers ?
I do very often. Whether a see an child with great manners, or do something super kind/mature, I'll tell them how nice that was, or go tell their mom what a nice thing they did, or if I see something I want to comment to someone on, or if I see an older couple that looks so in love, or anything that catches my eye.. I know how cool it is to get a random kind comment from a stranger  (and this is NOT in reference to pops staring at me in the bookstore  )
but just thoughtful strangers who see somethng that you might not have even noticed..
Like just yesterday, at a school event, a dad was playing pattycakes with his daughter. and it was just a precious sight. any guy who will play pattycakes with his daughter in public is super cool in my book ! 
so I had to stop over to them and tell him what an amazing and super cool awesome dad he was
he and his girl were too giddy to even hear me but they did grin from ear to ear
anyone else ?

yes, I do but only if it is happening in front of me. I'm always afraid that if I went out of my way that people would think i was a stalker or something. I'm silly sometimes.

Right..I would be a little creeped out if someone was staring at me from across the room and came over to comment. I'm weird like that though.
I also don't like when people go ga ga over dads doing things with their babies, but mom's don't get that same ga ga KWIM? Not directed at you specifically OP, but I see it a lot

I actually went up to a new twin mommy last week in the mall. My opening line was basically "I know I seem like a stalker but I just had to see them" (I stood at a respectful distance of course) I then explained that my twins were 9 etc..ooohhh and ahhhh for a minute and was on my way....

oh this one's a good one.
a few weeks ago, someone at a store was really helpful, and kind, patient and polite, so I told a manager how great this worker was..
ready for this ? she goes "he's a good lookin kid too, isnt he ???!!!I love that kid, and he's leaving us soon, I told him he better never leave me  "
so I guess sometimes its best to just smile

this is one thing I NEVER do  only because one time, many many years ago, we tried to peek over at a set of twins in a stroller, and the mom had a FITTTTT, covered them up and wooshed us away with her hand as if we were giving them bad luck or something. (it was an evil eye superstition thing I was told by someone who knew her)  
I have a soft spot for twins, so I usually will say something to the parent, but going over to ooh and ahhh, that one flashback does it for me.

ITA as well and I do give complements whenever I see someone being a great parent.

I gave compliments all the time when I was waitressing in resturants. If the child or parent deserved it, I made sure they knew it. It was always such a pleasure to have great kids.
I will give a random comment if the parent is near me and I don't have to move toward them to let them know. (I think if I move toward them I will freak them out.)

Yes, because I think it is important for the parents to know that whatever they are doing to keep doing it!! I think every parent wants to hear that they have a well mannered respectful child!

Yes, I do. If they are right next to me I will say something, but if they are like 10 feet away I do not walk over to them.
