You knew a child named Vagina??? Poor poor child.
It isn't pronounced like you would say it normally. It's said like VA-Gheenuh.
I think the government steps in enough already.
Well, in that case, since it's pronounced differently, then it's a fine name . I think it's crazy to give a child a name like that. However, I agree that the government should not step in. I don't see how the government could make a rule that would not violate the First Amendment.
For me personally, I want any name I give a child to pass my Supreme Court Justice test. Give your child a name that sounds like it could belong to a Supreme Court justice. I don't think there will ever be a Justice Vagina Longcanal .

Re: Spinoff to the child's name Adolf Hiltler....
I'm not a fan of made up names or common names that are spelled strangely so it goes without saying that I think it is ridiculous that anyone would choose humiliating names for their children. Some of the names you listed liked Princess or Queen might be a bit unusual but in some cultures, are more acceptable (and maybe even common). However Vagina? Female? Adolf Hitler? I don't see the purpose. I understand that the person who named his child after Hitler was an Aryan but really? What does that have to do with your child being teased and tortured by other kids and maybe even adults.

THIS is when I think gov't should have a say. That is awful and a form of child abuse in my eyes...

Im not about the government telling me or anyone what to do.
Parents have been naming their kids ridiculous names since the beginning of time.

I agree. YET in this instance, with the child named Adolf Hitler Campbell and his sister named Aryan Nation, I think it is a form of child abuse. Honestly, when you name your children that it is abundantly clear that you are deranged. I mean CPS should be investigating this instead of being soooo concerned about this parent's "rights". WHAT ABOUT THE KIDS?????? The little boy has no idea who Adolf Hitler was and is innocent. That poor child. Why is it that no one is asking the obvious question...WHY are these parents NOT being investigated by CPS for mental abuse of the children??? Instead they are all over the news talking about their right to name a child after a tyrant who murdered millions of people.
Why is ANYONE debating their right to free speech and not focusing on the kids right to NOT be abused???? Are we THAT concerned about being politically correct to white supremacists? While I agree that they can name their kids what ever they want to, I feel the government should have a few names on a list like "adolf hitler" where they WILL NOT issue an AMERICAN birth certificate to any name on the list. So name your kid that, they are not a citizen of The United States, period. The list should be limited to names of people who have committed atrocious crimes against humanity.
I guess this is why I feel ignorant morons should never mate. AND why I feel you need to take a test (like a drivers license) to be a parent.

regarding adolf--i am *assuming* (but don't know for fact) that adolf is/was a common austrian/german name back in history. however, after adolf hitler, it is practically synonymous with adolf hitler--at least in our nation. i'm curious to know if people in austria/germany/etc still use adolf commonly. i wonder if it's like an american christopher/michael/anthony kind of name.
It's not commonly used anymore. The name has picked up the same connotation there that it has here.
I know an Adolfo from Mexico - I have thought that it is the spanish version of Adolf, but I don't normally think about it.
But I don't think you will even find someone who uses the family name of Hitler anymore. I'm sure they have all changed it in some way. Eitherway - Hitler's birth name was Alois Schicklgruber - they would have been better off using that name.

I'm not sure how I feel about government regulation. There are pros and cons both ways. But I know people who live in a European country that does have that regulation, and according to them, the govt only really intervene in cases where the name is truly ridiculous or highly offensive, not just because they arbitrarily don't like it. So I hardly think it would create a "slippery slope" effect where down the line you'd be concerned they could ban common names like Michael or Alexandra, or even unusual ones like Jezebel.

oh, it's much deeper than that... Hitler encouraged historical german names (to instill ethnic pride).... after hitler, now it is frowned upon if a german chooses ANY historical german name... my relatives initially shunned my sons middle name Heinrich becuase it was popular in the 40's... (Heinrich was the first german king about 1000 years ago)... I tried to humor them with all of the names they wanted to avoid, but honestly, there were dozens of them! In the end, we stuck with Heinrich, becuase I wanted that name to honor my dad....

the wierd thing is while of course no one would name their kid Adolf (except the freaks in this story), yet it's as common as ever to name a kid Joseph... somehow Stalin didn't have the same impact, despite killing even more people..... I would think that name should be dead too......

but see that's the thing--white supremacists (and black supremacists) have every right to feel the way they do as long as they don't cause harm to others. it may not be a popular viewpoint, and may be considered sickening by some people, but it's their right. it's not child abuse for parents to put their views on to their children--even when those views are of hatred.
for the government to start deeming names inappropriate would open up a can of worms that might not ever end. who is to say what they would deem inappropriate?

I don't agree with that at all. Joseph is a very biblical name with positive connotation waaaay before Stalin. I see your point in a way, but can't agree. There is no wonderful saint Adolf, lol, which may have made the name still appealing to some although prob not...
