Spinoff to the Supermarket post...

Do you bag your groceries?

Personally I do. I will no matter what I buy, no matter what I spend. I prefer to bag my own. Personally I find it annoying and rude when people (the customer) stand there and watches the cashier bag.

Re: Spinoff to the Supermarket post...

I help to bag my groceries only AFTER I have made sure I am being charged the correct price for everything I have purchased and made sure I am not being rung up for someone else's groceries.

Re: Spinoff to the Supermarket post...

I try to. But where I live, there is no room for the cashier to PUT the groceries so she scans and then places them in the bag, so I don't get a chance.

I use self checkout whenever possible... but we don't have those in the ghetto. Chat Icon

Yes I do. I like knowing what's in what bag, it's easier when I'm putting things away.

I do as much as I can. Sometimes depending on how happy or crazy DS is will determine if I can focus on bagging or if I have to focus on DS!

Yes, I like to bag mine so I can shove as much as possible into the one bag to #1 save on the plastic, #2 so I don't have to carry 20 bags up 2 flights of stairs, #3 just help out the cashier. As long as I can help, I will.

I agree with you 100%. My biggest pet peeve is people who do not help bag groceries. It's not only disrespectful to the cashier not to do so, but the whole line flows better when people help bag their own stuff.

This is me to a tee, I can't understand why they use 3,345 bags, it's like they're paid a commission for using as many bags as humanly possible.

Always. I bring my own bags and I pack them with the cold stuff together, etc. Personally, I hate when someone else bags them.

Re: Spinoff to the Supermarket post...

I bag my own groceries in my own bags, the recycled plastic ones I bout at Waldbaums.
I sort of group everything together to make it easier for unpacking.
I also like to have my tomatoes whole and not crushed.

Re: Spinoff to the Supermarket post...

I try to- but for some reason, I am really slow with this. The cashier always ends up having to do most of it because I can't quite get it together.Chat Icon

I DO try, though.Chat Icon

Same here. I will use the self checkout but if the line is shorter, I will go to the other cashier who bags it as there is no room for me to do.

Sometimes it is not possible though. I do understand at places where you can but my grocery store is not set up like that.

I always bag (I used to work at the supermarket many, many moons ago Chat Icon ). Plus, I like to organize my bags. Refrigerated foods together, meat separate, etc. etc.

Lately though, there have been baggers at my supermarket and although I'm not crazy about the way they bag some of the stuff, I feel bad saying anything. I just appreciate that they're helping.

Re: Spinoff to the Supermarket post...

If I am by myself, not usually b/c they scan and bag at the super by my apt.

if we are at our house, they usually have a separate cashier/bagger, or dh is with me and he does it.

ETA: if we are done with the transaction and still bagging. of course I help. I don't have the patience to just stand and watch when I could get out of their faster if I helped Chat Icon

I bag myself but only because I am completely anal and must bag certain items together, etc.

My husband is afraid to try to bag and I won't get on a line where there's someone there to bag!

ETA: I do not think it's rude or disrespctful not to help bag ...

Re: Spinoff to the Supermarket post...

I definitely bag my own (or at least help). I have a system and I like my items to be bagged according to where they go once I get home.

I do....unless of course there is someone bagging too and I don't have a lot and by the time I finish paying, its already bagged Chat Icon
I've seen some people stand there while the cashier bags everything...its one thing if you can't because of physical reasons etc...otherwise just freaking help them so we can all move faster Chat Icon

I also try bringing my own bags...I just leave them in my car, and usually fit more in my bags than in the plastic ones...if I do get plastic ones once in awhile, I use them to pick up my dogs' poop Chat Icon

Yes, but we use self check out so there isn't anyonelese to do it & we bring our own bags, so I like to arrange them certain way, b/c not all the nags are the same size/shape & some are stronger than others.

Always! Unless there is a bagger, which there is usually not, in which case I slip them a couple bucks.
