Spinoff to those Moms of Happy Babies
So many of you said you had happy babies; but I just wanted to know if your baby is now happy--were they like that from the beginning?
DD is only 2 weeks old & there are times she'll be in hysterics for 2 hours where nothing works to soothe her. I think she just gets overtired & is fighting sleep; but I wanted to know if your DC went through this too?
With the exception of this 1-2x a day fussy time DD is a wonderful, happy & sweet baby only waking for feedings & seemingly content.
Thx.

Re: Spinoff to those Moms of Happy Babies
At the start, Lily was fussy quite a lot of the time. Anytime she was awake, she was either eating or crying. Of course, she spent most of her days sleeping, so the nights were filled with the crying - which was really difficult. Now, at almost 8 weeks ( ), she's so much happier, and can be awake for longer stretches without crying. She's much happier and more alert and a lot more fun to be around! i think it also helps that she's sleeping at night, so she can be awake during the day when I'm most alert and happy. And she has some sort of a schedule, so she knows what to expect more. In the beginning, they're trying to figure out their whole new world...that's got to be frustrating and scary! I think I'd cry all the time too!

Re: Spinoff to those Moms of Happy Babies
For the 1st 3 weeks, Bella SCREAMED when she was awake, the WHOLE TIME There wasn't a moment she wasn't crying. It was the worst.
Now... she's a different baby! Hang in there, like I said... it DOES get better.

I can honestly say that there have only been a handful of times since Charlie was born that he has been hysterical. He has his fussy days but 9 out of 10 he couldn't be any happier. I'm sure I'm jinxing it

If mine was being held, he was fine. He did not do bouncers or swings or strollers. So, he was only a fake happy baby Because I have been holding him for 7 months straight.

This is my DD (she's 3 weeks). She ONLY wants to be held, will not tolerate swing, bouncy, car seat, or bassinet. She sleeps ON me at night, cries the second she touches the bassinet.
If she's awake, she thinks she needs to be eating, even if she just finished eating. So, she gets fussy when we don't feed her. So, we're constantly doing the "happiest baby on the block" 5's, which do work, but we feel badly that she can't just be awake and content, that we work to put her to sleep just to calm her down.

Re: Spinoff to those Moms of Happy Babies
Carter is a very happy baby - since birth. He really only cries when he is hungry when I don't get the bottle fast enough ... but most of the time he just "talks" experimenting with his newly found vocal cords.
He has been a piece of cake to take care of and really hasn't been a huge adjustment for us at all. He goes everywhere with us and he is good when we go out places - walking our local bridge, dinner, mini golf, bowling, shopping ... he has been everywhere with us!

Re: Spinoff to those Moms of Happy Babies
DS was not a happy baby until he was about 8 weeks old and we had a formula switch. Now he is sweet and cute and smiley and he SLEEPS.
I don't know, I think once they can smile, it helps b/c you get some nice feedback.

Re: Spinoff to those Moms of Happy Babies
at 5 1/2 weeks....I have a not so happy baby. He too will fight sleep SO hard that I swore up and down he was colic....NOPE. The past 2 days have been better.
They are so little and their systems are so immature that most times, it's something they just grow out of when their systems mature a little.
ETA: we still have crying fits that last an hour long....I'm still learning his cries, his signals, and how to juggle everything. The ONLY cry I know is his "I'm tired and want to sleep" cry" which is a pathetic whimpering type of cry versus the SCREAMING (with no tears) he does when he's jsut about asleep and realizes it and wakes himself up!!!

Ainsley had to be held all the time in the beginning - but now she can go in her swing and actually lay in her crib watching her mobile - and I get a break. . . for me it did get easier!

Re: Spinoff to those Moms of Happy Babies
I have the happiest baby on the planet, sickness and all - but the first 6 weeks I thought for sure he was angry with me for bringing him into the world. he did nothing but scream, colic is not even the word here - but at 8 wks all that changed and he is the happiest kid around, everyone tells me so, so it must be true!
He also did not nap for 4-5 months and that was reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally hard but now at 11 months he is a dream.

Re: Spinoff to those Moms of Happy Babies
Well, my daughter was miserable from the first day we brought her home from the hospital all the way up until about 4 months. Ever since then, she's been the happiest little baby I know

Re: Spinoff to those Moms of Happy Babies
For the first 2 months we had a BAD witching hour/hourS and she'd be fine the rest of the day and then at 2 months, it just stopped. She is very strong willed, but generally a very happy baby.

Re: Spinoff to those Moms of Happy Babies
DS has a very bad temper - fotunately we find it adorable and can laugh our way through it. It has calmed as he has gotten older. At 8 weeks he is a completely different baby. When he wakes up in the morning he greets us with smiles and coos. During the day he has his moments but mostly as a result of being overtired. For the most part his happiness level is increasing week by week.
It does get easier - they change so much as they get older and start to mature.

same here but she has NOT been hysterical, just a lil whinny. I have never experienced anything like that with DD, she is always smiling and happy. she will go with anyone and laugh with them, she wakes up all smiling and razzing you and she plays in her crib/pack n play when she wakes up too. she is teething with her second tooth and still no hysteria. she really is very happy. I hope it stays this way

Bella has always been a happy and easy going baby. Only recently she's had moments of crankyness (phase or teething), but it is so short lived, it really hasn't changed her personality.

Re: Spinoff to those Moms of Happy Babies
Katelyn has been a happy baby pretty much since birth. She doesn't fuss with breastfeeding, dirty diapers, sleeping, etc. I REALLY got lucky with just an easygoing baby, although I'm also very easygoing. DH is a little highstrung sometimes, and usually when he is spending time with her she tends to fuss a little.

Re: Spinoff to those Moms of Happy Babies
DS was constantly crying and miserable the first few weeks of birth, I think because he was colicky then i took a massage class and since then it has helped and he hasn't been that fussy. He's now pretty much a happy baby.

Re: Spinoff to those Moms of Happy Babies
My dd was very unhappy for her first month to maybe 6 weeks. I finally asked the doctor if it was normal to cry anytime she was not asleep or eating. Once we got the gas problem under control, she has become a happy and easy going baby!
