Spinoff: what should age of 1st job be by?

My 16 yo has a regular once-a-week babysitting job that's been ongoing for three years now. Its only 2.5 hours once a week.

With her school workload (4 AP classes), I do not expect her to hold a job during the school year. I do expect her to get a summer job this summer and next. Last summer she worked at McDonalds (because no one else hires at 15) and she hated it. This summer she will hopefully have more options.

Shudder the thought of McDonalds Chat Icon That was my first job, but of course I worked all through school, actually as many hours as allowed by law ( and actually more, nobody was checking up then.) I also took AP classes and went to a prestigious Prep school. But you're right McD's isn't for everyone, it's not an easy job, they actually expected you to work!

Re: Spinoff: what should age of 1st job be by?

I started working at 14. A bunch of my friends did – we all worked at Adventureland.

They hire at 14 for the games but not the rides.

I have an almost 16 yo stepdaughter and she's already had a few jobs.

She's worked at Ralph's ices, Pump it up, and a little local grocery store. she quit the grocery store because the hours were too long. She's working the other two now though. I think she works too much but that's another post.

Just mentioning those places in case anyone's looking for their teenager!
