I'm watching now. I can't believe that I'm actually disliking John and feeling bad for Kate.
I wonder if they'll rename the show...or worse, make Kate the newest bachelorette. 
I KNOW! i always loved jon but after this episode i dont know how i feel about him. i feel bad for kate, you can tell she truely didnt want this.

Maybe it's me, but does Kate seem tobe playing the "poor me" role, even though she mentioned that she doesnt to be treated like the sob story? I just feel like she is acting like someone else and not the Kate we have all watched over the years.
I got all choked up when she said she doesn't want to be alone and doesn't want her kids to be a statistic. If they do a montage at the end, it is ALL OVER for me!

I feel like he is so indifferent.....
I feel bad for Kate. I know most people blame her and think she is a b!tch but I just feel so sad for her.

I was thinking the same thing.
This is why I haven't liked him for awhile. I really feel like he left the marriage a long time ago. I really hope they can figure out how to make this work.

I don't think so at all. I think she is reacting the way any mother would in the face of her entire world falling apart.
I didn't watch this show much but, I never really liked the whole idea of it. Do I think kate was whiny and bossy and condescending - absolutely - but, I think this is on Jon - he is obviously the one that checked out b/c as his words and actions have made clear at 32 he doesn't not seem to be ready to just be the family man father of 8 - a little too late for that I think. So sad.

I agree, I think she is doing the Kate thing and trying to save face, but I also think she is really sad about it. How could you not be. Is Jon a Saint heck no, but this is what he wants. I don't necessarily think he is a bad guy for wanting to seperate from his wife.
On a lighter note, memo to the Crooked House people, the doors should open OUT!! Lol!

ITA on all accounts. It is just heartbreaking. I dont think Kate is playing the martyr at all, she is doing now what needs to be done for her family. I think Jon checked out a long time ago and wants to be 18 instead of 32, to describe his emotion as excited kinda made me naseous. my heart breaks for them all and i love that family so much ud think it was my own family! heartbreaking.

You know you're right. The part i didn't like is the part where there was text on the screen that said they filed for divorce on June 22nd. Does no one else find it convenient that they filed for divorce the morning of there show and it was ready to go in the episode? I'm not sure if this makes sense but number of viewers must be through the roof after the last few episodes have a downward turn.

She sounded like she had talking points that the PR people made her go thru to rebutt all of the negative comments that get said about her.
ie. that the show is the reason for the divorce, that she is mean, etc.

I bet they had the divorce papers ready to go awhile ago, and TLC forced them to hold off until today. Wouldn't want to spoil the big announcement .
I think they are both severly at fault, but the way this thing is playing out disgusts me on a lot of levels.

It was all planned; TLC had to know this was coming so they probably told them to hold back and do it on the same day to drive up ratings.
It's the same as the Housewives of NJ book magically appearing and a big dinner being planned.
Staged/coordinated efforts. As much as these shows are 'reality tv', they are scripted tv.

like when jon said " i'm passive.. she ruled the roost and i've had enough.."
i really didnt think they would open up that much .. they seem like the type of people that would continue to say " this is a private matter and we will discuss it privately"
they really filled us on on all the gritty details about their separate lives and how they will go on living and their feelings toward eachother..
Also, i agree with Kate.. that the divorce would have been inevitable. the show did not bring it on..she has the type A personality and completely emasculated (sp) him. sure they got greedy toward the end but it was only a matter of time before he would crack.

Ok..I admit it, I cried over the show tonight. I think its heartbreaking...especially for those kids.
As for Jon..I cannot stand him. He's only 32...he's excited...he doesnt hate Kate...WTH?????????????????????????
You are not a child. You made choices. You got grand things from this show.
I hope Kate is strong. I hope at some point he wants to come back and she denies him. Also..I still wonder if he cheated. And if he did..your a lieing cheat!!!!!!! If you dont respect your wife, at least respect your kids.
The whole situation is just really sad in my opinion.

Jon just baffles me... it's obvious he's having a crisis, but I really feel like he missed the boat. It would be nearly impossible to live with a person like Kate, but he just fueled her behavior by passively living his life for years, hiding behind her, and acting out privately with other women. He abandoned her years ago when he let her just take over everything. Not to say that Kate is the epitome of kindness... she is just as much to blame and he is. But, I see why she had to control so much; when your husband is absent of opinion and strength (and you have 8 young kids), you have to grab the world with your own two hands.
And now for Jon to say that he's finally standing up for himself?? No he's not. He's running away. He needs to stay there, work on his marriage, and STEP UP as a husband. There is no doubt in my mind that he loves his children... but leaving because he can't stand up to Kate is no way to help his family. It might bring peace for a few moments but it will be so much destruction.
I wish he loved Kate enough to help her stay in control. I think Kate knows that she is out of control and what she needs is a man to stand beside her- not cower behind her.
