I call them John nieces. They never call him Uncle so they won't be calling me Aunt. but they are older ranging from 21-13.

yes I do. The oldest one was only 5 when we started dating so I feel like they are my nieces and nephews... but sometimes I do refer to them as "Ray's niece" or "Ray's nephew" because it makes it easier to know who I am talking about.

I consider them my niece and nephews. But since they are all teens or above, I don't ask them to call me Aunt Kathy. They have known me for 10+ years so I am not a stranger to them. The newborns will call me Aunt Kathy though.

I feel like I am aunt to the babies that were born since we've been married, but it is hard to feel as close to the ones who were around long before I came into the picture...How do you all feel about it?
I feel the same way ... although none have been born since we've been married ... so I "feel" like an aunt to the ones that were 10 and under when we got married

Yeah, they call me Aunt Jen...the oldest is 19 and the youngest is 5 - I've known her since she was born but the others I think it is so cute that they call me aunt!!

I'm not in that situation because SIL has not had kids yet. But I look at it this way. When my Uncle married my Aunt I was 7 and I very much considered her an Aunt from the start.

My DH had 2 neices that were 20 & 13 when we got married & yes they are also my neices now. The 20 year old (now 23 calls me Aunt Jodi). My neices DH considers his. One of them was 8 and one of our FG when we got married and the other was born after.

Mike has 3 nieces and a nephew.
When we met the Twins were 3 his niece was 6 months. They don't call me "Aunt" My MIL tried to MAKE them call me "aunt" when we got engaged they were 9 and 7 so it was hard for them I think to call me aunt.. His nephew is my Godson  and was born much later so she refers to me as "aunt" to him.

Yes but DH's nephew was celebrating his 1st birthday when we started dating so I feel like I've seen him growing up.
I can understand how you feel. I would probably feel the same way.

Yes. They were barely 2 when I met the youngest of them . . . I can imagine if they were older when I met them, I might not feel as close of a bond . . .

I know what you mean too..
We have a nephew that was born long before we met and it is harder to see him as "mine" too. They have alwasy lived in another state so I think that is part of the reason too.
Our goddaughter, however, I absolutely consider mine. Bil and Sil asked us to be the godparents right after she was born and I am super close with her.

No, I don't really. Most of them are adults. Other than his sister's twins (about 10 years old) the rest are 21+ and I am not close to them.
But he considers my sister's kids & my brother's kids nieces and nephews. They all call him uncle and they chat with him on myspace.com

DH's sister's son was born while we were dating, but we were together for 5 years at that point. DH's sister won't call me "aunt" but her husband will. My nephew is 3 now and despite all this..he loves it when he sees me and has gone out of his way to let me know I'm one of his favorite people. It's not bothering me like it used to.
My SIL is pregnant again right now with twins and I'm curious if I am worthy of aunt status. Guess I'll find out in a few months
