Spinoff..to Moms that stay at home and sacrificing...
For the moms that work do you also feel that you still can't spend as much as you did and still have to sacrifice even if both you and DH work?
With this crazy economy it seems that everyone is having a hard time making ends meet.

Re: Spinoff..to Moms that stay at home and sacrificing...
I've been on both sides of this and in between (working PT) and honestly we haven't felt it that much but I think our "worry" is more. What I mean is that we worry about the bigger purchases and should we be letting that money sit in the bank just in case or I know I worry about my plan to stay home longer when #2 comes before I go back to work PT. Things like that seem different for me than they did just a couple of years ago.
ETA: Right now I am working FT so that staying home again is an option where maybe if the economy was better I wouldn't have done that. We have a house we can't sell that we're renting and that is always a weight on our shoulders. If the economy was better our house would have sold long ago.

Re: Spinoff..to Moms that stay at home and sacrificing...
I am happy with our situation. My dd is with her grandparents 3 days a week and then at a sitter who has 4 of her own kids 2 days a week. I spend as much time as I can with her and the set-up works GREAT for us. On the weekends, it is ALL about doing things with DD.....

I am in the same boat as you and man things are getting hard. I hate not being able to buy what I want and go on vacations.

i am not back at work yet, but will be full time in the fall. already i am a little worried because child care is so expensive! for the first time i feel lucky that we rent rather than frustrated that we don't yet own. if things get overwhelming we can switch to an apartment with lower rent because we are not locked into a mortgage.

Yes, but our situation has changed more than before DS. We were living in a coop before we got pregnant...that mortgage was 1/3 of what the new one is, we now commute from LI instead of Queens, and a few other things here and there. So the overall situation has changed and it's hard to compare then and now.
It's true...the economy seems to be touching everyone in some way or another. We are fortunate not to struggle but at the same time...no more vacations, careful spending, cutting back where possible...and overall just more aware of our limitations.
