SPR-I am little ticked over this...opinions please

So, we just got back from a wonderful Thanksgiving with my SIL and her family. It was amazing to see Christopher with his cousins and really a fun time..

But...

On Friday, while I was putting Christopher down for a nap and my SIL popped the memory card out of my camera and uploaded all of the photos that I took of the kids over the time that I was there.

She ALSO sent them to my MIL, and I was planning on making an Christmas gift out of one of the pics too...and put some on HER Facebook..

Now I just check my email and she edited them using editing software that I had recommended to her, uploaded them to Flickr and emailed them to ALL of DH's familyChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

NO where am I given credit for these photos and now when *I* have them up it will look like I took hers!!

What would you do? WHat do I say to her? I actually feel very violated...

I would be ******Chat Icon

I honestly would probably take the passive aggressive route and make a comment about how you know most of you have seen these before since so and so took the memory card from your camera!Chat Icon

oh i'd be p*ssed!!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

First off, never touch someone else's camera! That is a no no! Chat Icon

It just seems so underhanded to me and sneaky. I don't like it. Not one bit.

Especially since she knows that you do this for a living now...

You just don't do it. SIL, friend or otherwise.

Im hoping she has no idea how rude that was. I would ask her to remove them immediately! Maybe/hopefully nobody saw them and your gift won't be ruined.

First off, I would be peeved that she touched my camera without asking me first. Secondly, since they were taken with you camera, they're YOUR pictures to do with as YOU please...not hers. I would talk to her and let you know how you feel what happened and why. It could very well be that she wasn't thinking and perhaps saying something would prevent something similar from happening in the future.

I would be ****** and I would say something. Or have my husband say something. Thats just wrong! I shoot RAW and luckily none of my family knows anything about that so I won't have to deal with this. Otherwise I could totally see my SIL doing this!

Re: SPR-I am little ticked over this...opinions please

I think that is a very strange thing for someone to do...I mean, who does that? Really?

It's one thing to say "can you make sure you send me the pics once you're done uploading them?" or something like that and another to remove your memory card and upload them like they were her shots.

Very weird.

I would probably just keep the peace and say something like "You know, I take a lot of photos of other people that could be on the same card and I would be really upset if their shots were compromised. I'll send you any files you want, just ask."

That really is so bizarre. Is your SIL known for such odd behavior?

She clearly doesn't realize what she did was wrong since she's sending you the pics.

Do you see her often? If not, I'd probably just want to keep the family peace, and next time you se her, keep your camera faaar away from her when you're not around!!

I would be annoyed! It's one thing to copy someone's picture that they have up on FB and share it....it's totally another to take someone's memory card and steal the pictures, edit them, send them out, and never give the photographer credit!! That's ludicrous!!
Definitely say something to her, or have Chris say something to her....that's not cool!

That is the weirdest thing I've ever heard. Are you and Shorty related? Chat Icon Chat Icon

I would say something. When DS was born I had to have a "talk" with my sister about posting pictures of him before I even got home from the hospital without asking me. Sure, she was excited - still doesn't make it right. And this is so much worse, IMO - she took YOUR camera with YOUR pictures and basically made them her own. If she didn't want you to do anything with pictures including her kids, fine, she should have said something. Not knowing her at all, I would say that this is sneaky and underhanded.

Editing them and sending them out??? That's just way over the line. I can't even imagine how anyone would think that's okay, ESPECIALLY because this is what you do now. I would never do that to DH without checking with him first and it's just his hobby - and I DO edit his pics for him.

I think you absolutely HAVE to say something to her.

I think it is very strange behavior and I would be angry. I would also say something. I get tired of giving people the benefit of the doubt.

Part of what bugs me is that I ALWAYS send my pictures out after an event/weekend. And if there is one tha tsomeone likes, I send it as a JPEG.

So, I mean, its not like I don't share, and I wouldn't have a problem with her sending it out then

And yes, I had other photos on that card too, which makes me upset too, what if she messed them upChat Icon Chat Icon

that's all i could think of when i read the post! Chat Icon

when my SIL did that (just hours after i gave birth), I hit "reply all" to the email that went to DH's whole family and wrote

"While we would've loved to announce the birth and share the first photos of our son ourselves, we appreciate the kind words and well wishes. "

some members of DH's family were horrified that SIL did that, but most thought *I* was the beyotch for replying to the email.

4 months later, and nothing has changed.

This is really really really.... I'm stuck for words, I'm not even sure what it is!!! Weird/Offensive/Ludicrous???? All of the above????
I guess there are a # of different ways to handle it, depending on the outcome you want? I like Snickers reply though, cause say, for instance, if any of Shane's pix got messed up with that little stunt, I'd be driving down there to have a little chat with your SIL Chat Icon
What an IDIOT.

But, I found her the perfect Christmas present. You're welcome.:

I'm Chat Icon . I'd really think you should say something. If anything you could say you'd rather she wait til you "watermarked" them with your photgraphy studio's name because you use FB as free advertising.

She was prob just excited that she has such awesome pics of the kids thanks to you!! I'd still go ahead with the gift idea and try not to let it ruin the great Thanksgiving that you had!! If its really bothering you, then I'd say something- let her know you have intentions of making a gift and you;d appreicate it if she asked about using your pics in the future!

I agree. I don't know her or your relationship with her so this may not hold true but she probably meant no harm and probably wasn't thinking.
I'd mention it but in a non confrontational way.

Re: SPR-I am little ticked over this...opinions please

My SIL and I do this a lot since it avoids us having to send each other pictures over email to edit as we see fit- THAT being said, we do it with each others permission and DO NOT post each others pictures as our ownChat Icon That is just so low. I am sure she knew what she was doing was wrong- she had to! I would definately be saying something.Chat Icon

Our relationship is fine..

But she does like to take credit for things...

Honestly, I am annoyed she touched my camera KNOWING I had things on there (we'd talked about it) that were very important...

I don't know how I'm going to mention it. I only see her 2x a year really, so I may have my husband handle it...
