Re: Starting cereal and moving on to Stage 1 foods....question
I started Riley on Oatmeal first and once she got the hang of it I introduced pear into mixed together.
Now at 6mths the Dr gave us the green light to go ahead and introduce more fruit and veggies

Re: Starting cereal and moving on to Stage 1 foods....question
When I started Mason at 4 months with oatmeal he wasn't having it. Just wasn't ready so I took a break and started again after 5 months. Did better. I mixed the fruit in with the oatmeal, but he seemed to like it better separate. You can start fruit after you've tried oatmeal. Talk to your Ped about it, but it shouldn't be a problem. Just try it for 3 days b4 switching in case of an alergy.

We're doing oatmeal...we might do veggies soon. We don't mix though.

Re: Starting cereal and moving on to Stage 1 foods....question
Ann is 5.5 months. I started rice cereal or oatmeal around 4 months, just on weekends and just to see how she'd do.
About 4.5 months, I started making fruits & veggies for her. Started with sweet potato and how she's had apples, peas, pears and butternut squash.
I'll sometimes mix pears with the oatmeal but pretty much only because the batch I made is pretty thin.
She really seems to love it all (well, I think she can take od leave the peas!).

Re: Starting cereal and moving on to Stage 1 foods....question
we started solids at 5 months. i still haven't given him fruit yet (minus his daily prunes) i wanted to get all of the veggies out of the way first before introducing something sweet to him (i did carrots and sweet potatos last) he did great. i still put in the same plate half cereal half solid and sometimes mix it together on a spoon

Re: Starting cereal and moving on to Stage 1 foods....question
Check with your ped, but ours had us start just oatmeal/rice cereal first, then veggies alone, then fruits alone, then mixed. I think the idea is to get the different tastes seperately, and to test for allergies. Apparently if you start fruits first they may like veggies even less because they are used to the sweet taste, so our doc. said to go through all the veggies first before doing fruits.

Re: Starting cereal and moving on to Stage 1 foods....question
we started cereal at 4 1/2 months and she slowly got the hang of it. After about 2 weeks I felt like she was "getting it" and I added fruit. I think we did banana first. She was never crazy about oatmeal plain so we always mixed a fruit or veggie with it.
