Stimulus ....do you qualify?
Anyone with an adjusted gross income (AGI) under $75,000 and married couples earning under $150,000 will receive the full $1,400 or $2,800 payment, respectively. Plus $1,400 each child.
It just seems that many long islanders won’t qualify with those income caps. We at least got a little bit under the previous stimulus

So, we dont qualify on the income part, will I still get a check for my 2 kids?

Re: Stimulus ....do you qualify?
So I know our gross is over that cap but not sure about our adjusted gross. No idea what our adjusted gross is.

I was told there is no reduced amount this time. Last time we got a small amount and our accountant said there is no ‘phases’ this time around. It’s flat out capped at those amounts.
ETA it looks like families who make under $160k still get a slice of the pie. But doesn’t help me, guess that’s why my accountant said that.

Stimulus ....do you qualify?
Nope. As I said in previous threads, I find the criteria to be very unfair. I'm sure there will be long lines at best buy and many vacations booked when the checks come in.

I agree. Many in my circle are teachers and cops and do not qualify. I’m curious to see how many long islanders qualify.
$5,600 for a family of 4 plus the child credits is a nice chunk of money. And to miss it by a little stinks.

The child credits are ridiculous as well. A family with 4 children will be getting $1200 a month for nothing. That just boggles my mind. Maybe they should be putting some of that money towards helping with mental health so I'm not laying out $700 a month just so my daughter can see her psychologist.

We do not, but I am ok with that. We were lucky enough to not lose much income. My DH's restaurants suffered due to the shutdowns, but they did decent considering a majority of the last 12 months was takeout and delivery only in NYC. I do feel bad for people who did need it and didn't qualify though.

Family of 3. We didn't qualify last time or this time either. I'm OK with that. We have both worked the entire pandemic, so our income didn't change. I just hope the people who really need it are able to get it.

Yes and it helps. Believe me, We aren’t booking a vacation or running to Best Buy. It will go into savings for off season unemployment because my husband is self employed and much of his work is seasonal. And this Year has not been the most profitable.

Qualify for nothing. We got before because we are under 200k but with the lower income limit we miss it.
I would love some extra. I’m still waiting for the hazard pay all other hospitals got except for mine... would be nice...

I’m not sure what is meant by this...that people of a lower economic strata are going to foolishly squander the money, while someone of a higher income would spend it more prudently and therefore is more deserving? Maybe I’m misunderstanding...
To answer the question, yes I qualify. I feel slightly guilty as I have been working FT throughout the pandemic, but in this county, benefits to tax payers are so small that I am getting past that. I am actually glad that it’s capped somewhat. The last two stimuli I kept thinking of my wealthy ex boyfriend getting the checks for his minor children and it made me irritated. That said, I’m sure there are people capped who could greatly benefit from the relief and I am sorry for that.

I think that is directed to single people or married couples with no kids living in lower COL areas. It’s not fair that a family of 4 on Long Island making $180k gets nothing. But a couple with no kids making $140k gets full amount.

Ah ok. Gotcha. I can see that. I am single with three kids and am getting a fair amount of money and I’ve been hearing derisive comments that have upset me. Part of the reason I qualify is because I am far under- employed, relative to my education level, because I have a disabled child which prohibits me from taking many higher paying jobs. But I can understand the vantage point that you and I suppose the pp were coming from.
