Nope. As I said in previous threads, I find the criteria to be very unfair. I'm sure there will be long lines at best buy and many vacations booked when the checks come in.
I’m not sure what is meant by this...that people of a lower economic strata are going to foolishly squander the money, while someone of a higher income would spend it more prudently and therefore is more deserving? Maybe I’m misunderstanding...
To answer the question, yes I qualify. I feel slightly guilty as I have been working FT throughout the pandemic, but in this county, benefits to tax payers are so small that I am getting past that. I am actually glad that it’s capped somewhat. The last two stimuli I kept thinking of my wealthy ex boyfriend getting the checks for his minor children and it made me irritated. That said, I’m sure there are people capped who could greatly benefit from the relief and I am sorry for that.
I think that is directed to single people or married couples with no kids living in lower COL areas. It’s not fair that a family of 4 on Long Island making $180k gets nothing. But a couple with no kids making $140k gets full amount.
my comment might be a little off topic, but when I read your comment about families vs couples ( I get it ) but as a single person I never get a single benefit. I have no kids to deduct no tax benefits come my way so I feel cheated because of married couples and those with kids

Yes, and you probably helped furnish your friends’ homes etc via wedding gifts, bridal shower and baby shower gifts - meanwhile no one likely returned the favor to celebrate your life choices. That’s a good point and partly why I don’t think anyone here can really be the arbiter of who does or doesn’t “deserve” the stimulus. I was feeling guilty bc I hadn’t lost income but quite frankly I’m just going to take the money and run as they say. The US does so little for its tax payers. This pandemic has really opened my eyes to the complete lack of a social safety net in this country.

We do not qualify. It is frustrating to me...
This. It always annoys me that they generalize for the whole country without considering where people live. $150K here is a heck of a lot different than many other areas of the country but I guess they can't put a "unless your a New Yorker paying exorbitant taxes" exception to the rule.
I would have put those Biden Bucks to very good use. Right back into the economy. I'm happy for the people that do qualify though. I hope it helps those who need it and those who don't "need" it, I hope they put it to good us in their own communities.

Exactly. In an area where you have to pay half a million for a tiny house that needs a complete gut in addition to ridiculous taxes, $150k in salaries is not the same as in other areas of the country. We don't qualify and we are far from wealthy. But at the same time we did not lose any income this year so to be honest we don't really need the stimulus

Part of the purpose of a “stimulus” check is to “stimulate” the economy. So, running to Best Buy to keep the workers employed and booking a vacation to keep the hotels running.
ITA.
I would be thrilled to see people running out to spend their checks. Maybe it was a long postponed purchase that they can make now that they can breathe a little.
To answer the OP, I don't qualify but that's ok because we weren't affected.

Exactly. No one who receives a check owes anyone an explanation for how they use it. Also, if it really grinds anyone's gears so much, go run for political office and work your way up so you can call the shots.
And I say this as someone who took a pay cut, paid through the nose for childcare and still hasn't gotten a penny from any of the stimulus payments.

I agree. Stimulus=stimulate the economy. If I got the check, I would have put it in the bank. We didn't lose any income and my DH has a thing about saving. So he would have squirrelled that shit right away. lol So it kind of would have defeated the purpose

My parents received the stimulus payments. For whatever reason, they received a debit card instead of a check. So, my mother used it. But, it's not like she really "stimulated the economy". Instead of using cash or her credit card, she used that debit card to make her usual purchases. So, the money she would have otherwise used is still in the bank.
Unless you were saving up for something particular, if your income wasn't affected by the pandemic, you're likely to save the money just by default, IMO.

I qualify for the full amount and I have one child. Also the income cap is slightly higher if you file head of household ($112,500).

And 100% exactly this. I'm lucky that mine is going to, for the most part, go into savings, but IDK why anyone needs to make comments about how anyone else is spending the money.

Re: Stimulus ....do you qualify?
We don't qualify. I feel like the criteria is a little unfair, but eh it is what it is. My husband owns his own business and this past year has been TOUGH....he's been able to continue to take his paycheck for most of the time but only due to the relief loans that his business thankfully qualified for. There were times he couldn't take a paycheck and of course him and his partner needed to pay their overhead and employee's first. A few weeks ago he was finally able to pay himself back for the missed paychecks, but you know, we could definitely use the money. But like I said, there are certainly more people who need it more than we do, I am OK with that.
But they say 85% of Americans will get the stimulus. That doesn't sound right to me...I mean that means only 15% of Americans make 160,0000 joint or more? Can someone explain that to me because there's no way that can be....

Stimulus ....do you qualify?
We don't qualify (and didn't with the past check(s)). We didn't lose any income, DH is a frontline worker and did get a small bonus from his job, which we were happy to get. I am in an industry which actually did really well during the pandemic and I earn commission, so I actually earned more money in 2020 and we've filed our taxes. I don't begrudge anyone who received it or how they choose to spend or save it. Would it have been nice to receive-- yes, of course! But, it is what it is. Interestingly, In my group of friends/acquaintances who this came up in conversation with- it was almost like those of us who didn't receive it felt awkward to admit..it's strange. LOL

I think that is directed to single people or married couples with no kids living in lower COL areas. It’s not fair that a family of 4 on Long Island making $180k gets nothing. But a couple with no kids making $140k gets full amount.

I agree 1 million percent! I didn't get married until I was in my 40's and I feel your pain. As a married couple with no kids, we don't get any benefits either. The only tax deduction we get is our house, and the SALT tax limit really hit us hard.

That’s part of the reason I started this thread. I feel like more people I talk to don’t qualify than those that do. But again, most of my circle is teachers and cops. Just wanted to see how accurate the numbers are.

Well Long Island on average makes more than the average county in the country.
Nassau is #11 with an average median HHI of 116k. So much of the county is very easily part of the 15%.

Less than 20% of Americans have HH incomes over 150k
You can't judge by the NYC metropolitan area.

Yes . Cost of living is so high in the NY Metro (or any large Metro) area that the salaries have to be in line with that for anyone to be able to afford to live there. The rest of the country is not the same

Wealth in the US is concentrated in MA, MD, NJ, NY, CA, and HI. We really have two strata of people’s salaries, in the 34 other states we have a 55,000 middle class salary. In those six states we have a 115,000 middle class salary.

Then wouldn't it make much more sense to adjust the stimulus eligibility by state? Just because we are making more money, doesn't mean we are living any more comfortably because our cost of living is so much higher.

I agree! I feel like none of the Federal rules apply nationwide. The $10K SALT cap is a non-issue everywhere else. Even the $15 minimum wage is not the same effect in NY vs. another state. Unfortunately, you can't have 50 different rules for everything!
