Stolen from the CF board....do you or would you bring dc to a "bar"
if it was open during the day and/or served food?
what is your opinion of this as actual possessors of the little darlings?

Re: Stolen from the CF board....do you or would you bring dc to a "bar"
I took my DD to a bar yesterday for brunch. I also took her to the bar where my husband used to bartend one night to meet the owner. We didn't drink, just stopped in. I have no problem with it, obviously.

No, but I have a lot of family members who struggle with alcoholism so I am rarely in bars anyhow.

I've taken my daughter to a bar/pub that had a restaurant area in it, but never at night, only for lunch or an early dinner. I would never take her to a bar at night, though. Especially not a bar that was solely a bar and not even a restaurant. But that's me.

Re: Stolen from the CF board....do you or would you bring dc to a "bar"
A bar that serves food, yes, my DS has been to more of these then I can count.
Last year when we were in Florida for DH's family reunion, the entire family goes out to dinner, and afterwards, we ended up at a tiki bar, and we didn't have a car, so of course we went. It was fine. We don't expect any special allowances to be made for our child and with 20+ adults, he was on his best behavior
ETA-He has also been in cruise ship bars and a 30th birthday party at a bowling alley at 10pm...I think that MOST of the time when people see kids at things like this it is because it is an event where there is not a sitter available. It most certainly is not my idea of fun to bring my kid to a bar
ETA-Obviously he has been to Hooters too

Re: Stolen from the CF board....do you or would you bring dc to a "bar"
We do. There was a low key sports bar that we frequented before having DS. They have a bunch of booths and tables there. We LOVE their food, so we have gone there about 10 times since having DS.
But sitting him AT the bar? Hell no!

Re: Stolen from the CF board....do you or would you bring dc to a "bar"
I have no problem with it. Some of the places DH and I go to eat is a bar/restaurant. We brought Mason to Hooters once. A good friend of DH's is the bar manager there... hey, we got free food. LOL!
Also I want to add that sometimes it depends on where you live. A lot of my friends live in Hoboken or NYC where there are a lot of bar/pub/restaurants. During the day I've met up with friends and there were kids there. I didn't think anything of it. It was late afternoon. There was no wreckless drunk pple, wasn't a football Sunday or anything.

ditto, especially during the day. I see nothing wrong with this at all.
I mean, lets be honest, even Applebees has a bar and most of us have brought our kids there.

Re: Stolen from the CF board....do you or would you bring dc to a "bar"
Yes. In fact on Saturday we went into the city to an alumni gamewatch (watch UConn vs Texas) and brought the kids. My SIL met us with my nephew. There were a couple of other families there with kids. It was a bar/lounge type place. Served food. We had a great time and the kids were fantastic. I honestly see nothing wrong with it.
Would I bring them to Mulcahey's and stand at the bar - never.

Re: Stolen from the CF board....do you or would you bring dc to a "bar"
I replied on that thread...
I brought DS into a bar once when he was 6 weeks old. It was really more like a pub (Jackie Reilly's); we were there to watch a football game and eat. I might do it again, but I don't think so. I was worried about him the whole time because it was loud and then I had to deal with makiing him a bottle, etc etc...
If I was going to a bar to socialize and drink, no way, I'd never do it. I personally don't think it's appropriate. The only reason I ever considered it in the first place was because it wasn't a BAR setting, where we were sitting.

Re: Stolen from the CF board....do you or would you bring dc to a "bar"
a lot of bars are restaurants too so I dont see anything wrong with that at all! Both my kids have been so we can eat - lunch, or dinner! We gotta eat, don't we??? lol
AND if it is just me and my DH we will wait by the door before we are seated, but if we are with a group...they most often get a drink at the bar first so we obviously go with them to stand and wait there too!

ITA with this! My DS has been to the restaurants with bar areas..Applebees, Ruby Tuesdays, TGIFs, etc. We go to an "early dinner" (like 4PMish) and I see nothing wrong with it at all.

Yes, my son has been in bars that served food. In fact, his first two outings were at the same sports bar/restaurant, once for lunch and once for dinner.

Re: Stolen from the CF board....do you or would you bring dc to a "bar"
If we were going to go there for a meal, then yes, assuming that they have a seated area for regular dining (we have been to several of those in our area).
But if it was sitting in the bar area where there was only really drinking/appetizers around, no.

Re: Stolen from the CF board....do you or would you bring dc to a "bar"
Never at night, but say a place like Nappers that serves food during the day, and is open to all ages, yes. Especially on days like "smithtown day"
There is a local bar in KP, that like 20 of us, ages ranging from 23-60 would get together and hang out. Occasionally, someone would bring in their kids up and I couldnt care less. I was still young, single and not engaged. I would also curb my language just out of common decency if there was a child there, I didnt care that it was "an adult space", as an adult, I should be able to watch my mouth for a little while without it being a big deal.

Under these conditions I have. Every Sunday afternoon during football season my DH goes around the corner to the local pub and watches the games. At around 5, I walk over with the kids and we have dinner in the restaurant part.
We're usually out of there by 6-6:30.

Re: Stolen from the CF board....do you or would you bring dc to a "bar"
My kids have been in a "bar" twice. Both times my husband's band was playing.
First time was at a Fire Island bar during the day - so that was fine. Lots of families around.
The second time was Napper Tandy's in Smithtown & even though other bandmates had their kids there & he asked me to bring them to see him play, I was NOT comfortable. We didn't stay long. That was the last time. They can wait until he plays at our block party.
Bottles break, the dance floor gets slippery & fights break out. I don't need my kids in a place where it's ok for adults to be azzholes.

Re: Stolen from the CF board....do you or would you bring dc to a "bar"
Absolutely! I took DD to Sushi Samba when she was 2 weeks old (at 3:00- when the place was empty). When i was young, it was a great place to go out. Then I got older, and now its a great place to eat.
We live in the city and go to a ton of bars/pubs/grills. I take DD wherever we go. We often sit outside at cafes.
Maybe I have a hard time distinguishing a bar from a restuarant WITH a bar. I don't know. But almost every place in the city I go to has a bar, but also food.
