Re: Stolen from the CF board....do you or would you bring dc to a "bar"
I have taken DS to a bar/tavern during the day when I was meeting and old co-worker for lunch. I'm not about to belly up to te bar with him at night ...actually I wouldn't even do that without him, since I drink maybe twice a year. If I am going out it isn't going to be to a bar.
here is a picture of the offense!

Yes, we have taken our children to a "bar and grill". We do not sit AT the bar by any means, we have a table. They have high chairs, AND childrens menus, so why not?
Would I ever go "to a bar" to DRINK and bring my children? Good lord NO! But a place thats merely a restaurant with a bar, of course.
There is a HUGE difference between a BAR and a restaurant that has a bar in it.
ITA and wouldn't think twice going somewhere with tables and good food. I would even bring DD to Hooters during the day if there wasn't a popular game playing but that is a whole other thread.
I do not think that children belong in bars that are meant mainly for hanging out especially late at night. However, places like, Croxley Ales, Donovans, ect are ok at the appropriate times. I wouldn't go there with her on a Saturday at 10pm but she is sleeping at that time anyway.
Agree with the above.

Nope never have and probably never will. Bar type places are places meant for adults, IMO. When we take out our DD we try to stick to family type places especially now that she is a toddler.

Yes, I've done it. Robbie and No have experienced Fatty McGee's burgers first hand during a weekday afternoon and the waitress always gave them crayons and paper. Never took them on a Saturday evening and never would. I've also taken them to Hooters and they were the most popular kids there.

Bottles break, the dance floor gets slippery & fights break out. I don't need my kids in a place where it's ok for adults to be azzholes.
Sounds like any given Sunday at Giants, Yankee or Shea stadium
Having been to the bleachers at Yankee game this past year, I completely agree.
We had people complaining that our kids were disrupting them because they were climbing back & forth on the bleachers with the 30+ other friends we were with. My answer was "Um...you're sitting in the bleachers? What were you expecting?"

Re: Stolen from the CF board....do you or would you bring dc to a "bar"
If the place is a BAR, that also serves food, no I have not, and would not bring a baby/child - I know the bar scene from the restaraunt scene - and my kid doesn't belong there, and if I'm going to a BAR, I don't WANT my kid there - I want to be in a bar .....
If it's a restaraunt/pub - then it's not really a 'bar' - and if it does have that bar atmosphere, it's going to be after 9 or 10 pm .......KWIM? so, before the scene turns 'bar' then, sure I have and would again bring Sean - but after that, no - he stays home -

Re: Stolen from the CF board....do you or would you bring dc to a "bar"
I've done it... usually during the day or early evening hours at a bar/restaurant type place.
When abroad, I do it more freely - the environment is tremendously more family friendly in other Countires, so we take more liberty when in Europe or in Israel.

Re: Stolen from the CF board....do you or would you bring dc to a "bar"
Ya know I just had this struggle on saturday night. DH, DD and myself went out to dinner early 5:00 and by the time we were done it was 6:00, friends were meeting at a local bar for one of their birthdays and DH suggested we go for one with the baby, it's also a restuarant. I was really nervous at first and only agreed because it was so early and I made him drive by first so we could see if it was crowded and it was dead. So we did go in for one. I have to say though I was completely uncomfortable the entire time. Stood by the door with her and was happy that she started to get fussy so I could get her out of there. Daytime might be a different story, if it was for brunch or something evening, I don't think i would do it again.

Re: Stolen from the CF board....do you or would you bring dc to a "bar"
We have taken him to a pub/bar type of place, which really seems more restaurant than bar. We sit at the booths or tables though, not at the bar.
DH and I are not big bar goers anyway, so it's not a big deal, but it doesn't bother me if food is involved.
Would I meet a friend for a drink at a bar? When he was younger, maybe if it was a nice sort of bar. Now, no, he is far too wiggly, and I can't see him sitting happily while we sip our drinks. I'm better off inviting friends to our house and having a drink here while the kids play, though I don't do that often by any means.

I've taken my daughter to a bar/pub that had a restaurant area in it, but never at night, only for lunch or an early dinner. I would never take her to a bar at night, though. Especially not a bar that was solely a bar and not even a restaurant. But that's me.
Ditto!

My DH bartends once or twice a week so I have taken DS there to see daddy before his shift gets busy, we have also gone to breakfast with Santa there every year. They have a restaurant area, but its still part of the bar and I would take DS there to eat again before the bar was crowded. Its not like I'm hanging out at the bar with my kid and a bunch of drunks

We have baby happy hours in town-- so, yes. But, there are a large amount of babies/mommies/daddies... and we are like the only people there.

Re: Stolen from the CF board....do you or would you bring dc to a "bar"
I grew up in a bar, so let that serve as a warning Literally, though. My parents owned a bar and we lived upstairs from it. We were always in the bar during the day, but out by 8pm the latest. It was a small neighborhood bar, mostly old men during the day.... some people would bring their kids in, especially for the games on the weekend- it seemed completely natural to me growing up. Now, not so much.
I wouldn't be completely against it, but it depends on the place/situation. More so just b/c im not really into the bar scene anymore. I grew up there, bartended for over 5 years... now DH and I rarely go, so it doesn't really come up much. I know a few people mentioned Hooters... we took DD there when she was a few weeks old, but i dont consider that a bar- i put that on the same page as chilis- which she's been to also... but to me, those places are restaurants that have bar areas... not "bars".

I do, I have, I would, and I will.
Not a club ..... gotta protect those precious ears.... but whenever we go to Spain, DD spends as much time in the bars as we do -- and that's like every day.
Not so much here in the land of the free.....

Re: Stolen from the CF board....do you or would you bring dc to a "bar"
NO...A bar where we'd be drinking..a child of any age doesn't belong in a bar, unless it's like an event ( the owner has Santa there, charity event etc...which would likely happen during the day ...at night or even during the day at a bar which might be open ...the only reason I can think of to be there would be to drink? Why would you take your child? But to each their own.
Hooters is a chain resturant to me as is chilli's and applebees etc....My son's been to eat at Hooters many times and we didn't go to the bar area.

I dont see a problem with it at all. I think "back in the day" I would take issue with it when there was smoking allowed, but not now.
