Samaritan, definitely. If she was after money, she would have asked for cash, like you said. Chat Icon

I agree.

My dad did that for a woman once. She took the train too far out into LI. He didn't want to offer her a ride because he didn't want her to feel scared or awkward, so he paid for her cab.

You did the right thing -- even if she was "playing" you - how do you turn down a woman with an an infant?

I think it was very nice of you

Re: Sucker or Samaritan?

Even if she was suckering you, you did the right thing. A few weeks ago a woman at the supermarket asked me for a ride... I felt horrible that I was so suspicious, and in the end, I didn't help her out because I had my daughter with me. It's so sad because I remember when I was a VERY little girl, and my father would offer people rides all the time... it's a different world now. My point being though, that offering to pick up the cab is the best alternative - whenever I'm asked for money, I never give money, but I will always go into a local restaurant/deli and pick up some food for someone begging. Half the time they are beyond appreciative - other half are insulted and walk away... it makes you think.

You did the 100 percent right thing, and a very benevolent , kind act......You know there is a chance she was on the up and up and a chance she was a scammer..its about 50/50..you saw her get into the cab so you know she at least has to use the money for a cab ride....I do things like this alot (at work),,my co workers tell me i am being scammed at times, but I still do it on the chance that someone really does need help, and my thought on it is, I did the right thing..If they are scamming me, shame on them.
