taking a 6 month old to visit a nursing home - WWYD?
My grandmother has been sick and in and out of the hospital. She had to have her leg amputated. She is sooo depressed. My whole family visits her all the time, but I've never brought DD to see her in the hospital because I was afraid of germs, and my mom insisted that I don't. She's now been moved to a nursing home/rehab center. Would you bring a 6 month old here? Do you think its safe? I know seeing Maya would make my grandmother so happy, but I don't want to do anything to put Maya at any risk.

I think it's safe. My grandpa was in one and I brought DS to visit him at 2 months.
When the occupants of the rehab center are sick, they send them to the hospital as to not infect other patients.

My grandma is in a nursing home as well. I take DD there all the time. I didnt the first 3 months. But now at 6 months...i feel very comfortable taking her. Now that its nice...i have the nurses take my grandma to the outside patio they have there...so we can be out doors. I would totally take her...you have no idea how happy you will make your grandma...my Nana sees DD and lights up and is so happy for the rest of the day. Totally worth it.
Before I let my Nana touch her...i use my wipes to get her hands and face clean...and I don't let the other residents touch her.
I love going there also because all the other residents get so happy when they see her. They all LOVE babies! Its the cutest thing EVER!

I would definately bring your DD. YOur grandmother would love to see her and would brighten her day.
When my rother was in a nursing home and in rehab hopital, I brought Chloe all the time.. In the reha center he was alert, I don't know if he really new she was his niece but I saw a little bit of hope in him when I brought her..
to tell you thr truth germs was the last thing on my mind.. Anything to brighten my brothers existence was of importance

I would bring her. I brought my DD everywhere, especially at 6 months old. You have to live your life.....you can't live in fear of germs otherwise you'll never want to take your kids out of the house. KWIM? Go visit, I am sure your Grandma would love to see your little peanut. It will brighten her day!

Yes, my dad unfortunately has been in the hospital, then a rehab and now a nursing rehab for the last 2.5 months...I couldn't bring her to the hospital but ever since he went to the rehab and then the nursing home/rehab I bring her every weekend...and we do spend a lot of time outside since the weather is nice.

Yes, I would and have. My grandma was just placed in a nursing home. We brought DS out to visit her last weekend.

We took DD to visit my grandmother in a nursing home many times. The first time she was only 6 weeks old. It was May, so I didn't need to bring her inside - my mom brought my grandmother out to see her. I never brought DD up to where her room was, but she was inside the building in the common room many times. I say go for it - the look on your granmother's face when she meets her will be priceless! I am so glad my grandmother got to meet DD before she passed away. Even right before she died, DD was the only thing that made her happy.

I didn't and my mother is in a nursing home. I take that back. I did once and it was during spring and we were outside the whole time.
After 1 years old, i'd call ahead to see if anything was going around. Sometimes the nurses told me to stay away.

Yes, we took DS there to visit DH's grandmother. All the people there smile when they see babies and children. It really brighten their day and makes me smile to see the joy it brings pple.
BTW... so glad we went when we did b/c DH's grandmother passed away shortly after and I knew it meant so much to my MIL she got to see her first grandchild

My grandma is in a nursing home. If I never took the kids to visit her, she'd have never met DS. I've been bringing DS since he was about 2 months.

I toke my DS when he was 3 weeks old to rehab facility where my mom was after her back surgery. I think it's safe, just try to keep his hands from touching.

I took DD to see my grandmother in her nursing home at 2 months. She had dementia, and while she didn't know who DD was, she was very happy to see the baby. Others in the home were happy as well. It was very positive for everyone.
It's just like taking her to any public place. Just act as you would if you were at the mall or something.

Re: taking a 6 month old to visit a nursing home - WWYD?
Thanks everyone. I did take her today, and my grandmother was sooo happy to see her. She's going to be in rehab for a while... she just got her leg amputated, and hopefully she'll get a prosthetic soon. She has a long road ahead of her, and this really brightened her day. I had to bring DD to her room, she isn't mobile at all yet.

My DS is in daycare, so I would actually be more worried about what he would bring in there than what he might catch from the residents.
I would take her - it would mean so much to your grandmother and the older people LOVE seeing kids, because they so rarely get to see babies and children.

This was my experience too when visiting my grandma.

Re: taking a 6 month old to visit a nursing home - WWYD?
If it was flu or RSV season, I might not. Otherwise I would. There is always something going around but I tend to think that the RSV season is when you might have an increased risk for the baby or for the residents where you are visiting. I think that at this point, with your child having reached 6 months and it being summer, the benefits to your grandmother will outweigh the very very slight risk.
