Talk to me about follicle size...
I have one that's a 24. I should trigger tonight but don't have the shot until tomorrow. I have to test ovulation to see if I go on my own. If not I take the shot tomorrow night and IUI would be Thursday morning.
I'm a little nervous the timing is off this month...

Isn't this your last covered cycle? Can you just do timed intercourse and save this IUI cycle for next month?

YES!!
That's what I'm trying to figure out. I'm meeting with him at 12:30 to see what's next. I have a bunch of questions for him and I might suggest trying on my own this month and push for injectables for next month.

That's what I thought. They usually had me trigger once the follies got to around 19-20.

Aren't they running b/w to see when you surge? I never used an OPK once I started seeing an RE.

Agree. Your bloodwork (not follie size) is what should be dictating everything -- most importantly when to trigger.

They don't do bloodwork for me because I normally do the ovidrel shot. When the nurse called to confirm what's next I asked about bloodwork instead of doing ovulation tests at home. She said they don't do that...

I'm just totally confused. When I was at RMA 2 years ago, I only did b/w - never used OPK. And I always triggered. This just makes no sense to me at all...

I, too, am confused! Using a trigger shot like Ovidrel has no impact on getting bloodwork done -- they go hand in hand. I always trigger and get blood draw for every monitoring appointment. You are either being monitored by a RE or you aren't -- I would question why they aren't doing blood/sono to monitor and why you are being responsible for your own monitoring using OPK's. Are we missing something?

I'm so confused now too!! I go to RMA and they have never done blood work for me while monitoring, just the sono. The only reason I'm doing opk's is because they f-ed up calling in my prescription and my ovidrel doesn't come until tomorrow and there's a chance I'll ovulate on my own. When I spoke to Flisser he said I don't get blood work because once my follicle is a good size I get the trigger so no need for extra tests.
I'm pretty sure I got a positive opk tonight and will test again in the morning. I still have my consultation with SIRM for the 21st so we'll see how that goes. We've decided to try on our own this month and move on next month.

Re: Talk to me about follicle size...
So weird! I thought once you were under the care of a RE, they always did bloodwork and sono. If I was you, I would consult with another doctor at RMA. He seems to be all over the place...

Talk to me about follicle size...
I know at NSUH they did not do b/w and based the trigger shot/IUI's on follicle sizes but at RSNY they did b/w & follicle size. Each facility is different.

Talk to me about follicle size...
this is confusing for me too, they always did blood & sono for me. Even when I used the Ovidreal . They went by the blood results and follie sizes.

Re: Talk to me about follicle size...
There could be other things they are looking for in the b/w? Some doctors like to be super thorough and others if they feel it isn't necessary why do it. I would think after a couple failed iui’s you’d be more on top of everything, but that’s just me, what do I know.
My opk was positive this morning so we bd’ed last night and will again tonight and maybe even tomorrow. Miracles can happen right
Thank you for all your advise and support.

Nope, I was doing IUIs at RMA and the b/w was to monitor my hormones - make sure i wasn't surging on my own, etc.
I'd ask another RE at RMA to find out their protocol. Maybe this is just Flisser? Just seems strange w/in the same practice there'd be different procedures.

When dealing with something like fertility, why wouldn't you be super thorough?!?! While I don't enjoy getting blood work done at 7AM, sometimes multiple days in a row, it gives me piece of mind that they're not going to miss my surge. I'd find about about what other doctors in the practice are doing and how they monitor their patients.
And yes, AGabs, miracles can happen!Try to stay positive and keep
