Tattoos to honor loved ones
Did anyone get a tattoo to honor a loved one who passed?
What did you get and where did you get it?
Did you share the experience with anyone?

Re: Tattoos to honor loved ones
I actually got a huge fairy on my left thigh in memory of my great-grand parents. It says "always in my heart oma/opa"
And I'm actually going to get a pin-up girl on my right thigh in memory of my grandfather who passed VERY suddenly in May of this year.
I'm always ripping up my skirts or taking my pants down to show anyone who wants to see it...i'm so proud of my fairy and it means so much to me and I'm sure once I get my pin up girl I'll be showing that one off to anyone and everyone too....lol.

Re: Tattoos to honor loved ones
I got the NY Yankee "NY" on my ankle that says "Daddy", and the date he died. My Dad was a die hard Yankee fan and when he passed away I got it right after the Funeral. I went with my longest friend who lived out of state but came for the funeral.

Re: Tattoos to honor loved ones
For those who do have them, would you mind sharing pics?
I know they are a very personal statement, but in figuring out what I want, it might help.

Re: Tattoos to honor loved ones
I have had a lot of friends pass away young. The three that I was closest to were all guys. I didn't want to name names in the tattoos so I have three blue shooting stars on my leg that signify my three friends.

Re: Tattoos to honor loved ones
I am waiting on my friend to finish drawing it up. It is going to be an eagle with a angel on one of the wings and the lines of the wings will have his initials and date in them. i am putting it on my lower back. a place he always wanted me to get one. and as for why this kind of tat.. it has to do with the song on eagles wings the song we plated at his funeral

Re: Tattoos to honor loved ones
I got one with my late fiancees name on it. It's a cross that matches the one on his leg and the one we placed on his head stone. This picture is very grainey. It says "In Memory of *****". The only thing is sometimes it makes me uncomfortable being around Dh's family....

I like! I never even thought of that, but FH had three tattoos...I wonder if I could incorporate one of the designs....

I have one on my lower back in memory of my Dad.
It is a cross with Dad written above it. The cross is copied from this removable plaque that was on his coffin. (there were 4, one on each corner and me, my mom, sister and brother all got one.)
I went and got it done with my brother who got the same thing on his arm.

My DH is getting the same tattoo that our friend had (he passed away in July at 27... ). It is an Irish symbol and DH is getting it in the same place our friend had it (shoulder).

Re: Tattoos to honor loved ones
I have a angel back piece for my Poppy (who was like a father to me) and my brother's hobby was drawing (he was awesome) when he died I found an angel with one evil wing and one good wing (he said he always wanted to have one angel wing on one shoulder and one devil wing on the other) so I had the tattoo artist copy my brothers drawing right down to his signature at the bottom, that's on my upper shoulder.

Re: Tattoos to honor loved ones
I have angel wings on the entirely of my back for my nonna, who is my guardian angel since I have been a little girl. I am adding a halo on my neck for my grandfather, who i believe watches over my son. (Which is ironic getting a halo, but you'd have to know him to understand how funny it really is).
I have no names on my body though. If people ask me about the tattoo I tell them
