Tax Grievance Question
I know I missed the deadline for this year but I'm planning for next year. I have some questions. 1. If/when your taxes are reduced, do you get a check or are your monthly payments less? 2. Regarding the people who grieve your taxes- how do they get compensated? I know they get a percentage but where do they get it from? A check from the county? They dip into what you're saving before you do? If not, how? 3. Do you have to do the process every year?
Sorry for all the questions, but I have no clue about this!

Tax Grievance Question
first of all - YOU DIDNT MISS THE DEADLINE!! It's may. I just double checked online!! Fill out the form it takes 2 mins!
1. If it gets reduced, it takes like 2 years for the whole process, and you should get a check for the back-already paid-taxes. In the meantime, you would pay the service directly (such as mark lewis) after you "win". After that, it seems like your monthly payments should be less, but since the mortgage company only re-evaluates for me in december for the coming year- I dont see a huge difference. (my savings was only $500/year so I may have missed the monthly difference). I did check my tax bill and it was less.
2. oops i answered this above. After about a year of fighting, we won. you pay it OOP :(
3. no, but you can if you think it is going to be less. We tried in 2008? (bought in 2006) after the market crash but our house was already appraised (in the county's eyes) 50K less than we paid-- like it had never been updated with the housing boom- so it wasnt going to work. they told us that immediately. in 2012? we tried again and it worked.

Tax Grievance Question
Our lawyer just saved us almost 900 a year. The town turned around and stated my total savings would be reflected the second half of the year since the first half was already paid. I would imagine the second half would sit in escrow and then I can tell the mortgage company to do something (pay principal). This is our first home and first year in the house so im not sure how it works. We owe laywer half the amount we saved so either way, we still see some benefits

I just saw that I got the Mark Lewis application in the mail. I think I'm going to send it in.
