Tell me I am not crazy...English buffs enter.
Today I went to get a framed engraved at Things Remembered. It was to read:
"Grandma and Grandpa".
When I looked at it, it looked like this:
"Grandma And Grandpa".
I told the kid that the "and" should not have been capitalized. He was new and told me he was told to capitalize EVERY first letter of every word he engraved on EVERYTHING. Not his fault, he did his job as told. The manager came out and told me their policy of capitalization. I showed him the order and told him that it should have been engraved as shown.
Gee, you'd think a teacher who has a decent grasp of the conventions of modern English would know her arse from her elbow. Apparently I don't according to this guy. I told the manager that the word "and" is not to be capitalized and the engraving was grammatically incorrect regardless of their policy. He told me it wasn't a sentence so grammar did not apply. No sh!t, but still, "and" is not capitalized even in a fragment. It is not capitalized in titles either and titles are fragments. I made him re-do it.
The ONE thing I know about and this dolt questions me? Sure I am far from perfect but come on now! IDIOT. I am not crazy.

I asked the kid what he thought once it was done right and he liked my version better but he had to do what he was told. I totally understood and wished him well in his new job. He knew his boss was a complete TOOL. I capitalized TOOL for a reason of emphasis. Thank you

Who makes a capitalization policy?? How odd.
I would have made him redo it also....but I'm the kind of person who proofreads invitations I get in the mail for erros and if I find any, get all angry about it until the event!

I agree. 'And' should never be capitalized. Titles should not have prepositions and conjunctions capitalized. It also shouldn't start a sentence.

I proofread until I am blue in the face and I still make errors. In fact, the direction cards for Abby's baby naming had an error on them and they went out. OY VEY. It was not a grammatical error, but one in direction. I was in tears because I worked very hard on them and now I have to do a second mailing to right my wrong. I am easily irked when it comes to stuff like that.

a capitalization rule?? says who?! convenient rules for the things remembered manager today??  he just said that hoping you'd be like "oh, really? i had no idea it was supposed to be that way" and would take it -- he knew darn well that wasn't right - i smell a cover!! he just didn't want to do another one!

You are not crazy! Things like this drive me crazy, also. I was in Things Remembered a few years ago and eavesdropping on a ridiculous debate between a customer and a salesperson about what to put at the end of a last name being sewn into a throw.... I think the issue was the last name ended in an "s" and the debate was over an apostrophe. You can imagine the chaos!
