Re: Tell me I am not crazy...English buffs enter.
When I got my wedding invitation proofs is said And between our names and the guy at the store told me I was wrong when I said that I wanted it lowercase.

I agree. 'And' should never be capitalized. Titles should not have prepositions and conjunctions capitalized. It also shouldn't start a sentence.
Good on you for getting it re-done.
This is what I was always told...and I believe it to be English gospel ;) haha..you were 1,000% correct!!

When I went in, I was the only one in the store. Nobody was on the engraving machine which is 100% computerized. They told me it would take a half hour. OK fine. I went back and when I asked for it to be re-done, it took less than one minute. I think they just did not want to have to throw away a $35 picture frame.

What in the world? You are definitely not wrong. And this "capitalization" policy must be new because I would have flipped if my cake and knife serving set for my wedding said Katie And Chris.
People are stupid.

Re: Tell me I am not crazy...English buffs enter.
you ordered what you ordered - so you had every right to change it to your specifications
That being said, I don't think it's that big of a deal to get bent out of shape over
You wanted it a certain way - despite all that "policy" BS, they fixed it - done - no harm, no foul

You are right. It really wasn't a big deal in the grand scheme of things. However, as a child of a retailer, one never gets "into it" with a customer. He never should have thrown the "policy" BS at me. He should have simply replaced it with no questions asked, rather than insulting my intelligence.

I think it should be their policy to engrave it the way you want it.
But yes, the and should not be capitalized. It isn't in book titles.

Perhaps they can use it as a sample to show off their capitalization policy.
I've also heard of (and been to) the Automat.

No, you're not wrong (but maybe a little crazy ).
Whilst grammar is being discussed . . . I thought of you in Target last Saturday. The cashier rung up my order which totaled $1.61. I told her I had the penny, but wasn't quick enough for her to enter $2.01 as the amount tendered. She attempted to give me 5 pennies as change. I had to explain the proper change was 40 cents. She gave me 4 dimes. Apparently, she didn't know how to use quarters.

Re: Tell me I am not crazy...English buffs enter.
1. The "The Chicago Manual of Style" says the following about capitalization in titles: " -Always capitalize the first and the last word. -Capitalize all nouns, pronouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs, and subordinate conjunctions ("as", "because", "although"). -Lowercase all articles, coordinate conjunctions ("and", "or", "nor"), and prepositions regardless of length, when they are other than the first or last word. -Lowercase the "to" in an infinitive."

You're not crazy. They should put what the customer wants, not have a capitalization policy.
I agree!!! Thats ridiculous!!!
