Re: Tell me something unique about your house!

I almost forgot, while working around our property, we have found very old milk and cream bottles and a liquor bottle. We kept them all. I haven't even cleaned the liquor bottle yet.

Re: Tell me something unique about your house!

Wow! You all have really cool stories about your homes.

I don't know where to begin...

Maybe the fact that we have an alley in the middle of our house...They added a room but had to build it around the buried oil tank. So, if you look outside the hall window, you see the ground and another wall. Oh, and before we got the new tank, Swezey's had to send a skinny man to deliver oil to us, b/c the opening is very narrow to walk into!Chat Icon

Also, our yard backs up to acres of wooded land that our survey refers to as "The Land of Unknown Owners"... How scary is that? My DH always says he will threaten our kids with "if you don't be good - I am sending you to the Land of the Unknown Owners...woooo..." Chat Icon

Our house was built in 1908 and we still have the original bathroom tiles and mirror. Beautiful condition.

We also have a glass block wall separating our living room and kitchen.

Re: Tell me something unique about your house!

the coolest thing about my house is that it belonged to my grandparents...they bought it while it was being constructed in 1969. my entire family (aunts, uncles, mom, even me!) have lived in this house at some point in their lives and we have tons and tons of stories and memories of it. it makes it really special--i can literally look into a room and remember my grandparents laughing and talking and playing with me as a child. that's something most people can't experience and it makes my house unique Chat Icon

I really can't think of anything unique about the house......

Wait, I just remembered, our house is a two story house but inside there are 4 levels to it and many staircases....so I guess that counts as unique...

My husband has lived in all 3 bedrooms in this house at some point in his life.

He's also had the same phone number his whole life. We never changed it when we bought the house.

Same about the phone number for DH (it's actually still listed in the phone book under his father's name who passed away in the 70's). And the same may be true about the bedrooms in our house - I'm going to have to check!!

Before we redid the kitchen, there was a laundry drop to the basement in one of the cabinets ...

Our den used to be the garage, DH's father & uncle and some friends remodeled it and built the "new" garage.

We have the house plan "brochure" from the 60's and the living room was supposed to have the fireplace in a completely different WEIRD place in the room. I also think our front door is in a "unique" (ODD) spot ...

Re: Tell me something unique about your house!

Our house has two staircases, which I think is pretty neat. Also, there used to be an intercom system set up, but it hasn't worked since we moved in so we have disconnected it.

Our building is an historic landmark and was originally a hotel for silent movie stars back in the 1920's - Charlie Chaplin lived here while he filmed in Astoria

Re: Tell me something unique about your house!

Our house was built in 1929, and when we gutted the house, we found some interesting things in the walls...like old tobacco cases from that time, and various papers.

We also had this huge coal furnance in the basement (there was a huge vent in the middle of the hallway for the heat).

We also had all lead paint and asbestos when we moved in!

We kept most of the original doors in the house, with really intersting vintage door knobs.

there's more, but i can't think because DS is being very vocal.

Ditto on my house. It's pretty new, so no cool stories. Chat Icon

ETA: We have pocket doors in 2 bedrooms. Not sure if that counts! Chat Icon

I should have clarified ... it wasn't any *real* laundry drop, just a HOLE in the floor inside the cabinet!!! Chat Icon

And I've got bunnies living in my back & front yards too and my golden eats their poop Chat Icon like it's some sort of a delicacy!

Re: Tell me something unique about your house!

Our house is only 4 years old, so there's not much that's unique about it.

We have cool wrought iron spindles on the staircase.

NO big trees (s ucky, but unique!). Most of this area was built on empty plains, so all the trees were planted as saplings and are teeny tiny.

There's a friendly neighborhood fox that occasionally visits our backyard.

The walls are made of drywall but with this texturizing stuff sprayed over it, so the walls aren't smooth. Seems that a lot of the houses out here have that.

The outside of the house is stucco.

Re: Tell me something unique about your house!

We have an akward area in the basement that is about 5'5 (my height) and very narrow to walk through. It's supposted to be a storage area. We also have those half doors that swing in the basement to seperate the oil tank from the rest of the area. We have a crawl space that goes from the garage to some other area under the house.
Nothing too weird though.

Re: Tell me something unique about your house!

The other day when the contractor cut out the section of roof where he was going to run the hot water pipes, he found a check from 1967 made out to the last owner that was never cashed and also a motoring map from the 50's or 60's.
