Re: Tell the truth....how many of you have "shop lifted" by mistake?

The other day, non of the freaking scan it guns were charged at Stop and Shop.
That annoys me to no end. So I just went about my business putting stuff in my cart and when I was almost done shopping I went back and there were scan it guns now available.
So I was scanning everything in my cart in one shot at that point.

When I got home I noticed a bottle of seasoning was inside a bag of produce. I am guessing I did not scan it because it had fallen in the bag of produce.

So stuff like that- yes

Yep - back before I was married I was hosting a New Year's Eve party at my apt. I had 2 big platters in my cart that were like $30 each I think (cheeses, veggies, etc). The cashier rang up the beer that was on the bottom of the cart, but we both missed the platters that were sitting on top of them (I put them there so they wouldn't be squished). I realized what had happened once I got to the car & much to the dismay of the friend that was with me, I went back in & paid for them. Needless to say, a big "What would you have done?" debate started up at the party later Chat Icon

Walked out of Waldbaums with my case of water still under the cart by accident.

Last week at work, the group ate at the bagel place and we always pay after we eat. I walked right out b/c I was talking! Totally forgot to pay and didn't realize until 2 hrs later....I went back and paid them b/c I felt bad...they said they didn't even realize!

My grandma walked out of a store with a purse on her shoulder. We got like 2 blocks away and she realized and went back to return it.

I did that once! Christmas shopping, trying to decide between this gift or that and I was holding like 3 bags in addition to my own. Walked out and then came back to and handed the bags to the security guard, who thought I was crazy. Chat Icon

Re: Tell the truth....how many of you have "shop lifted" by mistake?

just recently I was buying socks for DS. He picked out a pair and put them under DS2's stroller and I didnt know it. I didnt notice it until I was unpacking the stroller to put it in the car. I wasnt going back for $1.50.

once i bought diapers at Target. the kid scanned them and I paid. I walked to the doors and looked at my receipt and there were no diapers on it, even though I saw him scan them . SO I went back...he must have scanned the wrong bar code.

A few items got stuck under the infant carrier. It was never intentional. DS always gets a big cookie at the bakery when he is with me. I break off a piece and leave it in the bag so I remember to pay for it.

The other day Liam was grabbing items as we walked through the store. I thought I caught him each time. But, he got a shirt and put it behind his back. I took him out of the carriage before we left the store and there it was. Thank god I didn't try to leave with him still in the stroller. THe alarms would have gone off and I would be have been arrested for for using my child to shoplift!

My dd grabbed shirts in oldnavy and had them in her stroller. I was shocked when I went to take her out of the stroller and put her in the carseat. My face was Chat Icon when I had to take the shirts back in and say my 8 month old stole them.

Yup, just happened to me a few weeks ago at Michaels!

I had my 19 month old DS in the shopping cart and was keeping him occupied while I shopped by letting him play with a small owl model decoration thing. He must have dropped it in my diaper bag that was next to him because I forgot all about it until I got home and found it in there later that afternoon Chat Icon I felt so bad!

I know I did! When the kids were little and in the carriage, I would put items in the bottom and pay for those, but would forget an item of two that was tucked in the hood of the carriage! I always went back, but sheesh...it was never my intent to steal the items!

And forget about the items my kids lifted from shelves and I didn't even notice!

This happened to me recently. A lipgloss I was buying was in the cart when I got to my car. I didn't feel right, so I went in and paid for it.

Case of soda under the cart. Went back in.

Bday cards (from Target), stuck them in DDs pocket in her stroller (DH had the cart in another section of store).
Met DH at registers, paid for everything in cart and completley forgot about the cards until we got to the car.

I went back in with those too.

It can and it does happen!

lots of times when DD was little, but I always went back, only once I remember I discovered I "stole" from Kmart but didn't go back bc I was flying overseas that day and there was no time. I did tell the manager (I know her) couple of weeks later and told her I would pay, she said it was fine and not to worry about itChat Icon

These are very funny!

DH and I were in the Gap and he threw a shirt over his shoulder while we looked at other things. Paid for those other things but he walked right out with the shirt. We got to the other side of the shopping center when we realized. We went back to return it.

Re: Tell the truth....how many of you have "shop lifted" by mistake?

Yes! And funny timing on this thread… last week I bought a huge case of water. It was in the cart & I started pulling it out to put it on the belt & the cashier said “No, No, don’t, just leave it, I got it.” I said OK. I paid for the stuff & left. This morning I was cleaning out my bag & saw the receipt, I don’t know what made me look at it but he didn’t charge me for the case of water!
