Telling work

My company did a round of layoffs today. Chat Icon

I survived and don't think I am in any immediate danger. We are a bit insulated from the market, and things seem to be stabilizing a bit for us.

I am grateful that my hard work was recognized and I was not let go, but now I feel awful that I haven't clued anyone in yet.

I am not due until 5/4/09 and really didn't want to say anything until after the holidays.

In light of the layoffs, would you bump up or push back when you let work know?

These are such scary times.

TIA

Re: Telling work

I would hold off until you feel comfortable...no need to rush in saying if you are not comfortable...I delivered the end of May, and didn't tell work until right before Christmas.

Re: Telling work

I could have written your entry word for word!

My company had a round of layoffs about 3 weeks ago. I ended up waiting 2 weeks after the layoff round and told my boss. I was thinking that they may be reluctant to lay off the pregnant girl and even if they did, I could probably negotiate a better severence package. If they never knew I was pregnant and laid me off, I thought I would have a weaker case.

Plus I felt like I was going to a lot of doctor appointments and felt I should tell them since I was already in the second trimester. I think I had gone to like 6 doctor appointments in a span of 2 months.

tell them earlier....i agree they should be more reluctant to lay off a pregnant lady with all the claims that get made
