I can't get FIOS being in Town of Brookhaven, but from prior experiences with Verizon, they're no angels either. Their customer service is beyond terrible.

FIOS 1 sucks...prehaps in 5 years, it will be something

News12 isn't that great either but at least you get to see whats going in the island.

BTW, you can watch NEWS12 feed direct from News12 site so you really don't have to miss anything.

MSG HD is missing but there is nothing worth watching on there anyway. The reason for no MSGHD is the same reason why Food Network HGTV is not on CV... $$$$ and because of that, CV can say we have 1 up on FIOS..

you have to pay for News 12 online if you have Fios...

Knicks & Rangers. Ever watch sports that aren't in HD? Yuck. Hopefully LeBron will be on the Knicks next year so that will maybe give people a reason to start watching Basketball.

And your reasoning regarding MSG and FoodNetwork/HGTV is not entirely accurate.

Yes it's about $$$... but it's for different reasons. The Food Network and HGTV issue is due to the HGTV parent company wanting to renegotiate CV's contract for more $$$$... and not more $$$$ for CV.

CV will never give FIOS MSG HD because they want to be the only NY provider with HD access to all the sports locals. So I gues you could say they want to 1 up FIOS. Satellite is not a threat to CV so CV doesn't care about giving DirectTV MSG-HD..

I'm out of state, so I haven't had CV in a while, but we recently switched from Cox (the main cable provider here) to Fios and love Fios soooo much more.

Re: The Cablevision Poll

Found this on cnn...

"We are sorry that Scripps' current financial difficulties are making it impossible for them to continue our relationship on terms that are reasonable for Cablevision and our customers," Cablevision said in a statement. "We wish Scripps well and have no expectation of carrying their programming again, given the dramatic changes in their approach to working with distributors to reach television viewers."

Fios isnt in our area. Only good thing about CV is Optimum Online.

We live in a very wooded area so satellite would be difficult.

We have CV b/c we rent. In our old house we had Direct TV and *loved* it.

DH used to work for CV he said they'll get the channels back it just may take a week or so.

Re: The Cablevision Poll

I've never watched those stations, so we're staying.

My way of thinking:
1. FIOS is not available where we are (plus I've been told their internet is not as fast as cablevision).
2. Satellite - you have to pay for HD channels (it's included in Cablevision)

So, for now, we're content and staying. Plus we watch Traffic and Weather each morning and that's on;y available on Cablevision.

Lebron, Knicks...As much as LeBron wants money, he wants to win. He won't be doing that at MSG.

I'm an old school knick fan. After Ewing, Oakly, Starks and co. retired, it went down hill quick. As for hockey, i'm not a hockey fan. Yes, sports not in HD stink as I did watch last year (in SD) when Lebron came to town and dropped 50+ points in the Garden.

I understand what your saying Ave.. perhaps my agurement of MSG HD is in accurate but i think its over money just like 99% of things in this world.

My cable is free because I'm an employee so no, I won't switch back to FiOS (which we liked better ... when I worked for VZB even though it was not fee or discounted at all).

Right now staying with CV. We had bad experiences with dishes and we were thinking of FIOS long before all this crap hit the fan. So eventually we will venture away from CV but not now.

Will never happen. At least not anytime soon.

They can propose regulation after regulation and CV will simply file appeal after appeal.

And if CV are forced to give MSG-HD to FIOS, it won't be for cheap and would most likely cause FIOS to raise rates.

The ONLY reasons why we will stay with Cablevision are the following:

#1- I have a feeling that they will get Food Network and HGTV back eventually.

#2- DH JUST hammered out a pretty good deal with Cablevision for the year, so we don't want to give that up.

If it weren't for those two things, I'd say bye-bye to Cablevision in a heartbeat!

ITA! We just nego'd a sweet deal..happy to keep it if the channels come back.

Re: The Cablevision Poll

waiting to see if they keep both channels off and there is no hope for them to return then i may go to fios. I know i would switch in a heartbeat if they threw in a free tv/ipod touch or something gimmick. I wanted fios because they have BBC and I have been waiting to see if they had a good deal to switch.

Re: The Cablevision Poll

We are considering making the switch to FIOS. I think we'll wait a bit to see if FN/HGTV come back. Our only hesitation is the fact that it is going to be a pain to switch since we have cable, internet and phone w/ Cablevision.

I have no love for Cablevision at all. The Dolans are really trying to run the company into the ground.
