I left Cablevision years ago and never regretted it

With DTV we get
HGTV
Fine Living
DIY
Food

With HD service and two HD-dvr boxes my bill is under $75 a month.

Do you have any of the HBO, Showtime, Starz or Encore channels?

And does directTV have on demand movies?

Just trying to get an idea of what DirectTV offers.

And, with a 2 year old in the house, it's not like we can actually watch anything other than Nick Jr. anyway.....

Same here. I've had no problems with CV, so no real pressing need to switch. I don't really watch either the Food Network or HGTV.

Re: The Cablevision Poll

I can't have a Satellite dish on my home, and my parents had nothing but trouble with FiOS (so much so that they switched back to cable). We'll likely be staying -- we plan on moving OOS with 12-18 months anyway.

ETA - I DO miss HGTV. I won't be surprised, however, if this contract dispute gets worked out relatively quickly anyway.

Re: The Cablevision Poll

My mother has DirectTV and while she has issues - their customer service is FANTASTIC.

Like others - she had a DVR many, many years ago. It is an RCA. Chat Icon

If I can convince DH to switch - that's what we'll be doing. Unfortunately - I think he would only switch to FIOS b/c of the triple play deal.

He wants everything in one boat.

A Cable salesman actually liked my logic when I explained that we have a dish for TV and FiOS for internet. If a car takes out a pole, if everything is through one connection, I lose TV, Internet, and phone. With two independent sources, if I lose satellite reception, I still have Internet, and if I lose the Internet connection, I can still watch TV... he didn't have a comeback for that one.... Used to have HBO, ended it when Sopranos ended

Have Showtime for Dexter

They have movies on demand, I used it once when a friends kid was over and everything seemed to work fine.
My BR player has NetFlix on demand, I'm use that more often.

I never had BBC America when with Cablevision, I really enjoy that channel

Re: The Cablevision Poll

Just my experience. When FIOS was available to us my husband jumped on it. I really didn't see why. Then we got it

I LOVED IT! He turned me into a believer. Frankly the service we got was awesome. They were very friendly and took their time with us during installation. They really did make sure we were 100% comfortable with everything. They told us how CV messed up our TV by breaking our antennea (which later had to be repaired) they came back out again when the baby was coming to re-wire our house and they were very friendly then too. I liked the automated service (yeah I know, sounds stupid, but I did) they were responsive and reasonable. I once had a tree knock down wires, LIPA said its a cable wire and FIOS was out that day. Only to find out it was indeed LIPA. LIPA took 2days to come out.

JMHO

oh how i WISH to god I could have FIOS here in San Antonio! Chat Icon I'm stuck with Time Warner *barf*

Well, it's not really a comeback but if that were to happen to me, I would be plugging my laptop into my cellphone and i'll have internet access. Chat Icon

Re: The Cablevision Poll

We just called up Verizon Fios, and making the switch.

I called CV today to see if they would apply any promotional pricing since I've been with them for 2+ years, and now pay full price for my triple play (approximately $250 per month with all the goodies) -- and they refused.

So, I have a two year price guarantee with Fios for the same packages, for $160 per month.

We don't, our cell plan covers 700 minutes a month so instead of letting those go to waste we use of cells for everything

I think a basic Verizon plan starts at 14.00 before all those goovernment taxes kick in

Re: The Cablevision Poll

We are sticking with Cablevision, at least for the near future. We have a good rate with them, and I've found their customer service to be fine. However, I have had nightmare interactions with Verizon over the years. We tried to get Fios when we moved to our home a couple years ago. They came out and told us there was a problem, though several techs visited us not a single one was clear what the problem was or could it be resolved. After several days of no phone, internet or cable we called Cablevision and gave up on Fios.

They gave us a hard time cancelling the installation as well, but eventually dropped the matter. It didn't really surprise me though--I've had trouble with Verizon a lot over the years, so I'm honestly happy to give my money to someone else.

And yes, DH loves MSG, and I cannot see Cablevision ever giving the rights to that up cheaply. So unless they drop Nick Jr., we're sticking with Cablevision. Honestly though, I never watch HGTV or Food Network, or almost never. So I might feel otherwise if I did watch these channels a lot.

Re: The Cablevision Poll

If it's not back this weekend, we are switching on Monday.
Not Fios, it's not available, but Verizon/Directv. It will be CHEAP the first year.

But DH and I don't care about sports and don't watch local news. i'll miss the local weather though Chat Icon But HGTV and Food Network are more important to me!

I hope everything gets resolved and it's back by this weekend! I miss my Food Network! Chat Icon

We priced out DirecTV & Dish Network today.....these service providers are such scammers! I love how they omit little details here and there....when you are on the phone with them, you practically have to cross-examine the rep!

Re: The Cablevision Poll

Washington, D.C. (January 7, 2010) -- Scripps Networks, the parent of HGTV and The Food Network, is suggesting that Cablevision is not interested in re-starting negotiations to put the two popular channels back on the air.

Cablevision was forced to drop the channels (both the SD and HD editions) at the start of the year when it could not reach a new carriage with Scripps.

According to Bloomberg News, Scripps is trying to get Cablevision back to the negotiating table, but the cable operator is playing hardball.

"We’re doing everything we possibly can to get back to the negotiating table and get this resolved,” Scripps Networks CEO Kenneth Lowe said Wednesday at a Citigroup Inc. conference, according to Bloomberg.

Cablevision, which serves more than 3 million viewers in the tri-state New York area, has said Scripps is asking for a 200 percent increase to carry the channels.

Scripps denies the request is that high and adds that Cablevision has rejected its pleas to resume negotiations.
